today i pulled up behind a cbr with camel graphics (dont know if that make it special or not) today pulled away from the lights trying to keap up with it but couldnt so with all this talk about how the fzr has 5 more hbp then the cbr i wanted to kown why i couldnt keap up maybe he had work done to it? maybe i didnt get the best take off? maybe my bikes a **** box? maybe i shouldnt try racing cbr's anymore? if anyone has any suggestion on any of this im open ears
Firstly, with any bike 15+ years old it all comes down to how well maintained it has been and how well tuned it is now. Dirty carbs, a mal-adjusted EXUP valve and some fouled plugs will destroy any potential your bike has. If your after off the line acceleration then i highly recommend dropping 2 (yes two) teeth off the front sprocket. It will drop your top speed to ~160km/h but you'll get there ALOT quicker than before! If your just wanting to know why he took of quicker than you then i'd be asking things like: - is your bike running well? - how heavy are you/how heavy was the other rider? - do you know how to drag launch properly? - did the other rider know how to launch? - how rapidly was the other rider shifting gears compared to you? (if he was changing more often or sooner than you then he/she has changed their gearing for faster acceleration... exactly as i suggested you do) Anyway, when it all comes down to it it really doesn't take much skill to launch off from the lights with a reasonable amount of speed. The fun will begin when you meet the same guy in the hills/track and only then will you find out how good a rider he is (and you are!).
Owr bikes are pritty **** under 10grand but after that its on then.my brothers bike isa zx2r its better off the mark then my bike.It just could of been your laurnch. But the cbr do rev higher.
koma as alwas you know your ****! i like the sound of dropping 2 teeth is it pricie? have you done it? is it worth doing it after all who really needs to go more the 160kph on a 250? will it hurt the bike at all?
I've done it and I'm in Liverpool, with Koma's old 15 tooth sprocket too . I did it as I changed my engine to a non-EXUP so it still doesn't run great at low revs but since you have an EXUP engine I'd imagine it would still make quiet a big difference.
BTW, I've raced a CBR and beat him, I did a good start and he did a **** one, my bike was running like **** though. On the next light he took of before I even put it into gear, still managed to catch up though . Oh, and that was with a 17 tooth sprocket with my old 3LNX engine.
Yeah i was about to say a front sprocket should be about $10-20. Rear sprockets are usually a bit pricier given there's more metal and work put into them ~$60-80. I still remember the fun after first swapping to a 15 toother on the front. Pulled onto a freeway onramp and in first gear i ended up with head shake from the front going light! Now on the 1000 i'm quite used to it... but on a 250 it was something new! <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt="" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: -->
ok just to keap everyone posted i didnt get to do my full service but i did change the plugs the only other thng i did was put the 15 toother on the front but i can really feel the diffrents maybe when i take it through some tight bends i will but ill keap you posted on that when it hapens
The only thing you'll notice is that you'll accelerate slightly quicker than before and you'll be cruising at a higher rpm. For example a 17 tooth front sprocket @ 100km/h was ~8700rpm if i recall... and with a 15 tooth it was closer to 9800 rpm.
ok so i took it for i little rided around the block theres alot of bends around where i live it does take of abit faster but not quiet the "head shake from the front going light" i was expecting but still better and i recommend it to anyone wanting more bottom end power!!!
Sorry, wasn't implying it happened constantly just that it had happened to me a couple of times on the 250. Certainly makes things more fun if your getting bored with the power and acceleration of the 250.
