Looking at buying an 88 bike thats had the engine from a 89 exup bike put in, just wondering if this will cause any problems?

Also is a flat spot between about 10-12k rpm likely to be a tuning issue?

IMHO, If the motor was designed to have an EXUP, it should be run with an EXUP. if the EXUP was transferred from the old bike, you should be OK.

    Flat spot b/w 10/12000 i would consider a problem.
On my bike, the power REALLY kicks in at ~9000 and goes through to redline.

Without seeing your bike, and assuming your bike runs really well in all other rev ranges (and the carbs are immaculately clean), i would say your slide needles would be running a little rich. If it is a little "peaky" in this range i would say its running lean, but i will assume flat spot=boggy.

If you are good with mechanics, try finding your slide needles (carb how to in the forum) and see where the clip is set. middle setting is standard(3). try set the clip one slot FURTHER from the taper end of the needle and see how it goes.

I can not stress enough how important it is to have you carbs IMMACULATELY CLEAN on these bikes. if you have ANY dirt in your carbs, it will cause you probs.

If you or the person you are buying off dont want to do this, get an RACV check for piece of mind. bout 200 bucks, but the will check everything out for you.

    good luck with your purchase.
