    ive got a 3ln and recently got a flat front tyre(snapped valve) and had to mess around alot just to work out how to prop it up with the wheel off. other than the stand thats already on the bike, what kind of stand would do the job ? im gonna make one in a couple of weeks when the hsc exams are done and wanna work out the design now.

    Mate good luck with the stand and better luck for your HSC. IMHO, don't let anything distract u from ur studies, even a simple design, for the next few weeks focus on getting them done and then worry about ur design. Hate for u to miss out on the course u wanted cause of a bit of metal.
    As for the stand though, just hang the bike from the handle bars off the garage roof or something strong enough using ratchet ties.

    Depends if your wanting to get the front, rear or both off the ground.
    Front: If you can turn the bike on its sidestand then you'll know how this one works... but it involves putting a hydraulic jack (or car jack) under the sump and jacking it up just enough that the bike will be supported by the rear wheel, the side stand, and the jack under the sump. It'll lift the front end enough to remove the front wheel and forks etc.
    Rear: I used to use some old speakers, but milk crates also are a good alternative. Just pop a sturdy box under the right swing arm leg, then go round to the left side of the bike, and put the other box under the left swing arm leg and voila. If you need to remove the rear swingarm then your going to need to suspend the bike or use a frame stand.
    Both: The only way to do this is either with a frame stand, or suspending one or both ends from the roof using Seifer's method mentioned before.

    There are a few points you can use hydraulic jacks on the bike. The sump is the first one, the bottom of the frame near where the swingarm attaches are the other good ones.

    of course, rarely do you have to remove both tyres at once <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

    I like to just hang it from the roof (which is a method Koma once suggested a long time ago (i think)).

    Put a few hooks in the steel beems that hold up the garage ceiling, and get a few of those ratchet and strap things that you use to tie down loads on trailers. The ones I got are specified to hold 750Kg's, but you can get bigger if you're worried... Just make sure the hooks in your ceiling are strong.

    Then you just wrap the straps around the frame and ratchet it off the ground.

    Yep, first time i ever had to pull the front wheel and forks off my FZR250 i suspended the front end with ratchet straps in TBone's garage. He swears by hanging the bikes over jacking them up. It does seem more stable and safe.

    i basically used the trolley jack method when i had to remove the front wheel, i didnt see it being the most stable option but didnt have any other method.. or didnt know of any at the time. i do now though, thanks!

    i used the engine mounts

    bear with me cos im pretty new working with bikes but basically i suspended the back of the bike with a paddock stand, than with two car jacks under what my cousin called the 'engine mounts' i lifted the front. Ill take a photo because i have to redo the fork seals again.

    Those your plans Raptor? Looks pretty good, but.....

    I'd put a brace going from just below the swingarm pads on the uprights to about 30cm's outwards on the main body. Just for additional secruity/safety. Still, looks good.

    Kind of like mine...
