I'm not usualy one to knock yamaha... but fck that's ugly.

I don't like the ram air intakes.

I don't like the tail.

The whole thing looks cluttered and messy.

Think of it this way... now the 2004/2005 model's will drop in price another $k or 2. Perfect timing if you don't mind me saying so... i'll be on the lookout for an '03-'05 model now.

As for the actual '07 model, i don't think its that bad but i'll hold off on final judgement until i see one in the flesh.

lol true

An R1's too much bike for me anyway, tho - more than 1 hp per kg, even without RAM air assistance... more than 4.5 times the power of the FZR250 (when it was new), but only 1.2 times the weight...

Yeah, I reckon I can work my way up to that slowly, lol. Knowing my history it wouldn't take me long to kill myself on a bike like that.

Nah, the newer R1's are fairly pleasant bikes to ride. I've tested a 2003 R1 and it was a little quick on the throttle but still fairly easy to ride. If your wanting something more friendly still then stick with the non-EFI R1's. Their throttle response tends to be a little more gentle and forgiving.

That said, i also tested out a 2006 CBR1000RR and thats about the only bike i've come back from a test and said that i didn't like it and couldn't live with it. It does everything like it should, just way too aggressively. Brakes hauled up from 180-80km/h with a single finger and a light touch, first gear @5000rpm with 2/3 throttle and the front lifts every single time, second gear @7000rpm rolling gently on to WOT and the front lifted a couple of times.

2 mths ago, I have switched to Suzuki GSXR-600 K6 from FZR250-3LN3. I was scare when I first jump on the bike, but after few days, I love it so much. it is very friendly and gd conering, excellent braking. very gentle in below 6000rpm. But when open 2/3 throttle, I stopped here, cant go further more in this stage, scary me every time when I reach there. But I have tried on CBR600RR-K5 and R6-K6, (not interesting in ZX6R-K6). I though Suzuki have the best finishing on the bike. new R6 is too aggressive when standing position is quite hard when stopping in the traffic. CBR600RR is too old since 2003, the looking still the same. just a bit diff on setting.

ROFLOL... the fun starts when you get to 9000rpm! Below that it's just like an oversized 250 with a few more ponies. Seriously, give it a bit of stick... it won't bite and unless your in first gear you won't get the front end off the ground.
When i test rode the 2006 GSXR750 it would reliably lift the front end in first at about 8000rpm, but in second required clutching and some heavy throttle to get the front wheel loftied up.

Yes, i judge bikes on ALL aspects of their ability not just power, brakes & handling. Mono'ability is an important part of a sports bike. The dealers do get a little concerned when i come back complaining that it wouldnt lofty in second gear off power alone.

I don’t mind it. It looks a bit awkward but still workable. Plus with all the new goodies inside I’m sure the highly calibrated seat-o-pants dynamometer would be blown away.

At least its not as ugly as the '07 GSXR1000.

Well on the GSXR750, CBR954 & CBR1000RR test rides recently yes i did also test out the rolling stoppie-ability albeit not intentionally. Drift ability, well i certainly wasnt expecting the tail of the Gixxer 750 to wind up as much as it did whilst exiting a round about although it was probably due to my kack handed throttling rather than the bike. 954 & 1000RR there was no way i was winding up the rear intentionally on a test ride. If it were my bike then i'd have no qualms in doing it but common sense told me not to risk a high-side on a demo bike.

i recently bought a 2004 600 RR and i must say its one hell of a sweet ride , the bike is so well balaced and corners so well it's unbelievable after the first time i rode it i had a grin ear to ear.
