hi all, i have a 2kr 87 and have been looking for a parts bike, mainly to get a regulator off of, I have come across a fzr however it is oldschool, like acual not even listed in the possibly imprecise model list. 1HX is the only thing in english printed anywhere on the bike- it has the tubler frame such as the 2kr and the engine looks exact however what sets it apart is the rear drum brake and the dual front disks. Also the regulator, unfortunatly, despite having the same plugs; has four pins in the small plug as opposed to the two on mine. My acual question is will the regulator work on my 2kr 87? But yeah, interesting no?
Sounds like something that some one has built up. I would not risk burning out your wiring or alternator just to try it. My advice is to find the exact same regulator.
I'm with dave on this one. I wouldn't be playing the mix and match game with the regulator - unfortunately these things need to be pretty precisely matched to the rest of the hardware. It does however sound like a very interesting bike you've found there. 1HX is actually the engine model number of all FZR250's, so there may still be hope. As for the drum rear brake... that scares me! What kind of person would install a drum on an FZR250?!
just to make sure, this is my rectifier no? black box, just under the pillioin seat. Number on it is 2kr-82305-50. Bike is 2kr87
The Zeal has only a single front disc and the rear brakes are disc too, not drum. The engine is essentially a 1HX though... Perhaps a picture of this beast would be in order?
After speaking with a fair few mech's who've worked on both Zeal's and FZR's i've been adamantly told that the Zeal engine is NOT the same internally as the FZR. Supposedly the majority of the internals are different - that said, i also know of a few mechs who have supposedly done half and half conversions on FZR engines with Zeal pistons, rods, crank & bearings. Not sure on the whole truth about it though.
