    G'day,
I have a FZR250 2KR 89 and as I am riding (in town) the engine/oil light (red)keeps on switching on and off, it stays on for maybe upto a minute max. then switches off again. I presume it is oil pressure because I only just filled it with oil 1000km's ago and my watch glass shows ok....Can anybody tell me why this is happening? or what the red light specifically means? As I don't want to do any damage, could someone help me asap??

    Cheers

I've got a mate with the same problem as you... and we've found that as soon as you rev the bike the light will go off. I'm hinting towards the oil pump might be at fault but haven't looked through the schematics of the bike to find out how we can test it.

FWIW the 2KR has an oil level sensor not a pressure sensor.

Yeah thats it! The only conclusion i got is that when you rev the bike, the oil pushes through the oil filter (when the filter is blocked) but when its on idle.. It doesnt push through so the light turns on.. but if they have no oil pressure sensor its got me stumped?

I reacently did a service on a 2KR... as far as I can tell the oil filter was about 50,000km old...

On the exup moldels (perhaps on the other one as well) you need to take the headers off the bike to get to the oil filter... so most mechanics will not bother... (but charge you the $$ for it)

simple solution - do it yourself. Its a bastard of an effort just to get to the oil filter but not really that difficult - just annoying. (a mate came over in the middle of this operation and thought i was dismantling the bike for wrecking! no fairings, exhaust etc. - just to get to the oil filter!)
But at least you know its been done. Oh and cheers Tbone for actually doing the job and not taking the easy option.

I hope you put anti-seize on the header studs so the next person can get them off as well.
