Looking to get new rubber for '89 3LN. Current tyres are probably original fitment(Dunlop Arrowmax)- plenty of tread left but rear prone to sliding out under braking(worst when braking front hard too).Any suggestions for a good replacement set?

What kind of braking? heavy? during a corner?
Using rear or front or both brakes?

I've never had my rear (arrowmax) slide out, except when accelerating a little early mid corner

I had my arrowmax slide out a few times

Happier with the BT45's even though the rear is starting to square off a bit due to the amount of highway k's i do compared to twisty stuff.

Get some GPR70's if you want sticky stuff

I know nothing about the Arrowmax, but you could be using a bit too much rear brake.

Arrowmax, Battleaxe... it's all the same shizzle.
Personally i'd go the Arrowmax if you just want a single compound tyre or the Battleaxe (BT045) if you want something that'll last a little longer if your commuting.

I'd manage to get both to let loose if i was reckless enough, it's just they both reacted in a different way. The BT045 tended to let loose more predictably when either compression braking or snapping the throttle on corner entry, whereas the Arrowmax would just kinda squirm when you got it to it's limits then all hell would break loose (and so would your traction).

+1 I can always tell when they are going to start acting silly and am able to ride around it. I like the idea of going to a softer compound but it isn’t really viable with all the commuting I do. I haven’t tried the Arrowmaxs yet but the GS has new ones fitted, I won’t comment until I have tested them out myself.

The real tyre comparo's start when you've got 3-4x the power going through a contact patch that isnt 3-4x the size, that's when it really starts to make a difference. That said, i now am getting a better understanding of what i was doing wrong on my 250 to break the traction - and that's that whenever it did happen it would be a pretty solid indicator that i was not riding smoothly. If you link your turns together and are smoother in your actions then you won't break traction in good conditions on a 250; but since when was that any fun!?

I just put a Pirelli Diablo Strada on the rear of my big mama and am liking it so far. It has a far more pronounced profile to it than the Metzeler M1 Sportec and as such it loves to be cranked over. Just a pity i havent had a decent day out to scrub it in properly. Strips still sitting at standard commuter levels of ~1.5cm.

I hav a set of Pirelli sport demons with a 140/70-17 on the back if I pull out hard from a corner it will spin up. It has done about 10000km now and I will need a new 1 soon.
