Hey fellas, After putting up with an annoying front brake (seemed impossible to bleed the air out and never had a consistent feel but seemed to work), I decided to flush through fluid again tonight only for it to stop pushing fluid through. So I pulled the master cylinder off and while I havnt yet completely pulled it apart (dont have circlip pliers) I am convinced this is the issue, as when I was trying to bleed them earlier I noticed air bubbles coming up through the reservoir. Has anyone rebuilt or replaced theirs? I'm thinking of puting an RGV250 master cylinder on.
Hey Shimmy Master cylinders can be rebuilt cheaply. Basically once the circlip is removed the piston and seal can be removed. Generally the seal will need to be replaced. Check before buying an RGV master cylinder as I am fairly sure its for a dual disc set up, the Across is single disc, hence it won't work. As for the few bubbles coming up whilst bleeding, totally normal. Get a kit and you'll be fine.
Hey, thanks fellas. I ended up pulling it all apart, cleaning it and reassembled it lubing it with clean break fluid as I went. It's now working again, while still not 100%, it's better than what it has been for a while now. Also, about the bubbles, coming up through the reservoir, it was while I had the bleed nipple closed, just pumping the lever to build pressure. It no longer does this. From what I could tell the seals while not bad, could do with a replacement sometime soon. About bleeding from the master cylinder, what about one of these? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/M10-x-1-00-banjo-bolt-with-bleed-screw-nipple-/160949712328?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item257959b5c8 Would be easier and cleaner.
