hey guys, I was thinking about doing the carbs and valve adjustments to make the bike run superb again. I have a 88 2kr, runs fine generally. A few things make me wanna think of adjusting it. Firstly, the bike starts fine 100% in the cold without choke, but when i pull the choke the engine just dies on me even after i get the engine hot. Also my fuel economy isnt great, i'm getting around 170km before reserve. Got some time in the holidays to spend on the bike, unfortunately no money, so any suggestions of how to rebuild would help .

These are the other little issues i'm having:
- Front suspension is feeling a little soft (any ideas on rough cost?)
- Horn works when rev is about 3000rpm for some weird reason, below that it just wont work

re: mileage - sounds like you are getting decent mileage out of your bike. If it was running rich you would be getting about 140 pre-reserve.

As for choke - you should always use this when starting in the cold. Your bike likes it! And why are you choking it when it is hot? If you choke without also using the throttle while hot it will/should die on you (normal occurence on all bikes) - if you use the throttle eventually you will get it will idle. This can cause fouling or other problems though if you leave it choked while hot. (someone correct me here if I am incorrect - carbies and I do not get along entirely)

As for adjusting (forks and carbies)- if you wanted have a look at a few of these topics:
viewforum.php?f=20
Specifically look at carb balancing and fork oil replacement.

There are also some other things you may wish to do in there (oil change, brake fluid flush, rad flush, etc.)

p.s. - Someone (for some reason I think Koma) posted a link to excellent carb adjustment site for a cbr250. I tried to find it so I could link it on the carb adjustment page but can't. Any help?

thanks for the quick reply, yeah with the choke, if i use it when starting in the cold it starts up and then dies, yet without the choke it starts fine. So i'm lost, also one last thing i forgot to mention, on the speedo, there is a little red light, it goes on when i reach 85km/h, is this a bad sign, or is it like some of the jap import cars which start beeping (annoyingly) when u do like 110km/h or whatever its set to?

the light should come on at 80 I thought... regardless that is just a speed warning light because 80 is supposed to be the max speed in japan.

Strange about the choke and dieing. How long after you start with and leave the choke on does it die?

well most of the time the if i have the choke on it wont start, so if i start without choke then pull the choke slightly it dies

Mine wont start if I use the choke when cold either and if I put it on it dies.
I just live with it. I still get 170k to reserve.
