Well, what a lovely start to the morning ><

I’m heading towards work, riding along a main road. It's peak hour, and the traffic is going about 80km/h (speed limit is 90). There’s a single lane in the direction I’m heading, and a double lane heading the opposite way. The other side of the road is empty, and there are dotted lines, so it’s legal to overtake.

I check there’s nothing coming, open the throttle and pull out into the other lane. I watch the cars on my left to make sure no one else has the same idea, and watch the road ahead to make sure nothing comes around the corner (several hundred meters away).

Ahead I see a car coming around the corner and decide it’s time to pull back into my lane. Indicator on… slow down… merge.

Still on the same road, I check my mirrors and see some flashing lights: a patrol car. Figuring he’s in a hurry, I slow down and drift onto the shoulder to let them pass. They don’t.

I sigh, pull completely over and switch the engine off. Hop off the bike – gloves off… helmet off.

    *sigh*
    Me: “Morning officer.â€

I got clocked at 66 in a 40 zone I was 7 min too fast, it was 8:53 in a school zone. He was hiding behind telegraph pole and it being a school zone the was plenty of street signs. I had no watch on so how was I to now what the time was.

122km/h from a quick little overtaking manouvere is quite a bit! That said i know how quickly we can accelerate given a good wind out in the power band.

I too came rather close to the instant loss of license, but the cops didn't actually get a speed on me; instead they alleged i was doing 'in excess of 100km/h in a 60km/h zone'! It was the onramp to the freeway!!!

Yeah, the police can be a real bunch of *^%$#!@ sometimes, other times they can be rather painless.

After I got pulled over for being 7kph over the limit without a radar reading and then given a lecture about how lucky I was to be only getting a warning, I came to the same conclusion. It just isn’t worth the hassle or risk.

although "officially" the 'attitude test' doesn't exist/influence police actions towards people i can say that i work by the rule treat them as they treat me. If you're courteous and polite, i will do the same.
If i pull you over and you start screaming and carrying on like a child, expect to get treated like one.
It is but a job, personally i do not enjoy giving out tickets and 75% of the time i will give out warnings, subject to circumstances/offence obviously.
The other 25% of the time i waste time dealing with people that continue to dig themself deeper into a hole.
The old 'fine me then, i'll take it to court' does not worry me or any other officer one bit. A traffic brief is all of 10 minutes paperwork and we get paid 8 or 12 hours for spending 25 minutes in court with you.

At the end of the day being polite and even respectful to our face will only go in your favour. We don't care if you drive off thinking "what a $#!&!"
You lie to peoples faces about what you think of them every day, why people cant do it to with us baffles me.
My 10 cents worth. speaking from experience....

If you don't mind me asking...
Do you have a police bike? If so, what make/model? I'm pretty sure we don't have them in NZ anymore, but I think I saw one recently, for the first time ever possibily.
