    after only owning the bike for about 2 weeks ive already started pulling it apart! every time i look at the little rust patches where paint is missing off the frame and the cracks on the fairings and the usual signs of wear and tear i decided to pull it down and clean it up as well as minor mechanical too.

    ive already got everything apart except for dropping out the motor which i havent had the energy to do just yet. i havent had a huge amount of experience with bike mechanical but fortunately im a car mechanic (in training) so ive got a pretty good idea what im doing. ive also been taking photos at most of the major part removal stages so i can put it back together easier and will give a decent post with a breakdown of what ive done when i actually start to put it back together and not just take it apart :p i also found out something interesting that my sisters does alot of work for my local yamaha dealer where i bought afew things from and she said i can get a big discount next time i need stuff !!!!!

    See if your sister can score a copy of the parts list from the Dealers PC.

    You'll rank up there in greatness with the fine lad that scanned and posted up the Factory Manual for the 250 (albeit in Japanese).

    Really?? My local Yamaha dealer, whom I know quite well because of the YZ, reckons to have all the factory parts data for the FZR which was a major fact in my buying one.
    Barry said that because so many made it to these shores on gray import that Yamaha NZ relented and gave autherised dealer the nescessery fiches for product support.
    I think a trip there will be arranged there in the near future to check it out, usually avoid it because it seems to cost at least $100 just to walk through the doors!!!!!

    Yeah it’s the same in Aus. I go down to the shop and they will sometimes let me print off some stuff but said no when asked about a copy, bastards.

    Can't hurt to ask, owning 2 Yamaha's I should expect to be treated nicely.
    If he tells me to get stuffed, reckon I'll pull a SUZUKI catalogue and ask him what he thinks of the '05 RM250.
    Never underestimate the power of a Dollar.

    ok... well i hit yamaha up for the parts list for the bike and they said that its 150 pages and they are happy to print me out things i need but dont understand why i would need the whole list. like hell they dont !!!! but this is only the first stage of negotiations so if i cant get it all printed at one time ill get them to print it all over a longer time. ill see what a few dollars or a carton does to persuade them. ill see how i go guys but i wouldnt get any high hopes :p

    And THAT, my friend, is exactly why a dealership would be stupid to give out the parts list.

    Just keep in mind that the last time I checked they only have lists for pre 1989 and post 1989 fizzers. As I have found out their are parts books out for each model that was released. I am still working on getting a 3ln-3 one from Japan but things are moving very slowly.

    has anyone seen this:
    <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.mickhone.com.au/spares.htm">http://www.mickhone.com.au/spares.htm</a><!-- m -->

    MickHone is selling workshop manuals (I know not part lists - thus off topic marker). I haven't bothered to check if they have the 250 (doubtful though). Is $50 for a workshop manual worth it (I have a haynes manual for my yzf)?

    I think so. I have both the factory and the Haynes. They definitely compliment each other. I'd say the Factory has better diagrams and more specs, but the Haynes explains the process a little better.

    I wouldn't pay that much for a CD. I think you can still order one for your YZF from the dealer. I think they are like $60-$65USD. I got mine on Ebay for $28.
