well, today started like usual getting ready for work and getting kids to school and then drag my across out of the shed and keep my fingers crossed nothing else breaks on it...lol, i have been married to it for months fixxing little niggly bits on it to keep the bastard running so i can drag my butt in to work

when i started the bike this morning it was very hard to crank over and didnt sound right at all

    i thought

mmmmmmmmmm... i bet the battery is just about stuffed. thats awesome.no more then 2 weeks ago i had to rebuild the front brake caliper cos i lost all my brake power ont front end, i have fixxed wiring issues, headlight wiring, horn, man bag, replaced bolts, repaired craked fairing, resprayed it, replaced bearings, cleaned carby, replaced carby slide holders, replaced broken and faulty indicators, replaced broken indicator flasher relay, replaced horn cos it was stuffed, replaced switch gear cos it was so old and perished it failed, bought and rewired new switch gear and made it fit and work, single handedly made a cross reference guide and scanned the best looking pdf manual for internet download in the last 21 years of this bikes history,

    im over it

misses_ozbiker told me today she doesnt care what bike i buy new, but i had better have a new one by christmas cos theres no way are spending another cent of this bloody suzuki

    lol

battery is removed and on charge. lucky for me i have a steep driveway to push start bike, and at work i have a nice little hill too.

so this morning when i got to work i parked at the top of the hill cos i had my doubts it would start. turn bike off. hit starter....... click goes the starter.....and ......

    .....

    .....

    .....

    *sigh*

i give up.im over it. i think this bike knew i took the kwaka 300 ninja for a spin on friday and has decided to revolt against my actions.

well, whatever bike, see if i give a damn.the local kwaka dealer will gladly take you off oy hand and give me bugger all for your rusty pile of unreliable bolts and rust you have, and after 21 years of service its well and truely time you were put out to pasture.

    dear suzuki across,
im over your stubbornness, im gratefull for your last 7 months of your time hauling me backwards and forwards to work, however im extremely dissapointed in your lack of commitment to me to be strong and reliable. i feel my commitment to you is not returned by you at all, therefore, im sacking you, and you *WILL* be traded in on a brand spanking new kawasaki ninja 300 special edition, with abs brakes, ventura rack, touring screen, tank pad, foam handle bar grips, 4 year extended warranty, 1st service free, and i will be getting this ,thats right suzuki across your *HISTORY*

i have already spoken to my bank and im seeing them this friday lunch time for a chat for a loan so i can retire my across and bring me home a new bike, first time in 13 years since i had a new bike.last new bike was in year 2000, a brand new honda vfr800.

bring on friday lunch time.i have spoken to the salesman again today at our local kwaka dealer and im seeing them again on saturday for a chat.

    *sigh*

i feel slightly better now. man im so tired of being married to my across fixxing it.i do love the sound of the 4 cyclinder engine though when changing gears at around 15,000 rpms, it sounds fantastic, but i need something reliable.i have never owned a kwaka road bike before, my dad had a few in his time, his last was a gpx750r, it looked identical to this, even the same colour

that bike was awesome to ride.great fun. you could open up the throttle full and you could hear the carbys take a big suck of air and about a second or two later you were kicking up thru gears like no tomorrow, man it had some snot under it.great bike loved riding it.
i think the only thing that ever failed on it was the front fork seals and i pulled it to bits in dads shed and replaced them.have done a few bikes fork seals over the years.
anyhow, looking forward to a very relaxed riding position on the ninja 300.man i cant believe how comfortable it is to ride.

and parts/accessories aplenty for the ninja 300 , even only it being on the market a few months, and i have started on a cross reference chart for the ninja 250/300, till take some time, but hopefully kwaka will keep the 300 for 20 years like the 250.thats cool, in 20 years time when im 58, i will buy another new bike....lol

The acrosses were great fun when they ran well, but more ad more it seems they just get grumpy in their old age :S

It's a sad thing, but a constant story I've lived and read online, and heard from friends, time and time again.

the days of my across grow closer..and closer

had a chat to my credit union and the repayments of my ninja 300 special edition with ABS is under $60 a week, find out next tuesday if loan approved...they said today there should be no worries but they need to do their homework and im going back to kwaka dealer tomorra for dealer invoice for the 300 and get quotes on full comprehensive insurance

i wasnt going to trade my across originally as my eldest daughter wants it, but im tired of fixing it so it can go out to pasture and be traded. kwaka dealer said they would give me $500 for it and im so tired of fixxing it, i will take it.redbook says its worth $1000 but im not going to argue with them.had enough

will certainlymiss the scream of the inline 4, hard to pick what one sounded better, my 1996 model cbr250rr or this across.
cant complain too much though, back in 1996 it was a hard call between the cbr250rr or the across for what to buy for my first road bike and i grabbed the cbr250rr. i dont regret my decision though.im glad i have managed to own an across , be it 17 years later on.

fingers crossed for approval of the loan, and even if i go get the kwaka 300, i wont be leaving this forum in a big rush, i have no doubt i will be allowed to post here in the kwaka section, made some good friends here.perhaps if i get the kwaka the forum can be updated to 250/300 bikes...lol

i will keep you all posted in the next few days as to how it all goes

    and yes

im still push starting my across. the battery is toast, im misses_ozbiker wont give me approval for spending another cent on this bike...lol

The Ninja 300 allegedly has 29Kw / 40Hp as standard, do you know how many extra ponies you will see with your exhaust, power commander and K&N filter ?

Just a quick one ozbiker. Curious to know if your warranty is affected in any way with these extras.

    nope.already asked the question.

just got off the phone to kwaka dealer again, an getting $700 trade for my across and with that im getting a power commander 5 and map switch on handle bars. the power commander 5 will let you hold 2 maps at same time, so i can put in a power map and a economy map and at the flick of a switch i can change between the two maps...

plus they added my own personalised licence plate to the invoice for my bank, so after lunch i will call them and ask whats going on, i dont want to wait till tomorrow to see if i have the loan...lol

Hope it shows up soon, for your sanity only!
Last but not least, have noticed that no AIR HORN was included on your wish list.
All the best, know your going to enjoy this ride.

    aaaaahhhhh

thats cos i have already pulled it off the across

i spent over half an hour looking at the ninja 300 on the showroom floor saturday trying to figure out how im going to mount the damn thing

i cant mount it where the stock one is, its above the forks and if i mount it there cos of the sheer size, if the forks bottom out i will smash the air horn.
i dont know how much room is under the fuel tank, but there doesnt appear to be enough room under the dash area behind the head lights, i dont want to mount it down the the headers or i will melt the thing
i have no doubt it will take some creative engineering and i will have to make a custom braacket, but rest assured i will make the thing fit.

now to chase the dealer again, cos they have not sent me the updated quote yet they promised a few hours ago.no doubt busy like me they will be.

then i can start chasing the bank.i dont want to wait till tomorrow to see if they approved me, i want a new kwaka

Top stuff  ;D Took a ninja 300 for a spin as my mate just put a deposit on one last week (none in the country for a few weeks apparently, lol it's a tough wait for him) and loved it! Great all round bike and that clutch is so damn light.

Out of curiosity though, if you owned a vfr800 at some stage why are you still buying 250 bikes? Surely you can get better deals out there. I've seen awesome condition fuel injected SV650s and the like way cheaper than 9k. Dunno about you but i can't wait to get off these ****ing 250s XD!!

All the best for the new bike

many reasons. i need a bike i can sit almost straight up on because of my back/shoulders. i needs something light, under 200 kilo, im sick to death of bikes over 200 kilograms, i fail to see where i need 100HP and above for street useage when 60kmph is the norm and 100kmph on the highway when you can lose your car/bike on the spot here in qld when going 40mph over the speed limit, i want something thats way more reialble then my 21 year old suzuki, im sick to death of buying 2nd hand crap full of faults and being married to the bloody things fixing them rather then enjoying them and wasting time/money/effort keeping the bastards running, i want a bike that has accessores galore and the ninja's have that, i want ABS cos ABS on the bmw k1200rs i owned after my vfr800 saved my life, i want to go about 400 kays on a tank of fuel before refuling and i want cheap parts/tyres, vfr800 tyres for front was over $200 and rear was over $300, the front tyre on the ninja 300 is the same as the across, i can have one of these on the front a battlax bt45 for under $160 and a rear for under $250, i no longer have the need to carry my wife on the back as she now has her own licence and own bike, and small bikes are *FUN* to ride cos you have to *THINK* bout what your going to do rather then just go "its ok, i will just open the throttle and zoom away", besides even with the across i can beat v8's from the lights, and im happy with that.i cant see me riding round australia again via highway number one with having 5 kids to my name in a big rush, but a day trip/weekend trip to cairns would be nice.only 400 kays, you dont need 4 trillion horse power and 250 kilo bike to do that.i like small, zippy, inexpensive bikes. the vfr was awesome on the trip round australia dont get me wrong. i loved hearing the v 4 sing and be able to leave black strips round corners and slide the bike side ways, great fun. i cant do that any more.my body wont let me.you too can have a body like mine after years of sheer abuse and total neglect...lol

having said that, you can get aftermarket handlebar risers for the ninja 300, footpeg lowering kits, radiator guards, you name it. i have always loved kwaka for the amount of aftermarket support you can get.i have also alwaysed wanted to own a kwaka road bike ever since i rode a zzr1100 years ago and i still would love to own one, but i just cant do it physically.
i think i have pretty much covered it all. plus ninja 300 parts are cheap, so is the insurance compared to bigger bikes. bigger bikes are fun, been there done that, had vfr800 2000 model, bmw k1200rs 2001 model, bmw k1200LTSE 2001 model, im over big bikes, i have been wanting something around the 400cc about 40-50 Hp for years with ABS and this kwaka has pretty much ticked all the boxxes for everything thing i need.
hope this answers your question :)

Yippie, guess who is in debt for $9000 and his Suzuki Across is about to be history in the next week or two

    MMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i was just called by the bank, loan is approved, local Kwaka dealer ordered my bike last week, they will call me tomorrow and let me know where it is and supply VIN numbers etc to bank so they can get money to Kwaka dealer

i must strap my digtal camera to the bike of my across and go for a strap and upload it to you tube. i will miss the scream of the inline 4 cylinder engine. i wish someone still made a decent inline 4, better yet an updated VFR400 would be better, but the Ninja 300 with all my trick bits on it will do me nicely

    yay for Debt!!!

    yippie

    Phil,
id love to win the Gold Lotto. Misses Ozbiker & myself already have our list of stuff written up of what were are going to do the day we win the big bucks...lol

Some one here in townsville won $27 million last month.apparently it was a husband/wife with a few kids. good on them.if used wisely they and they kids will be financially secure for a very long time

i mentioned earlier that the ventura rack hadnt been released for the Kwaka 300 yet, i have been keeping in touch with Ventura about it, i emailed them again last night and here is my reply regarding the rack for the EX300 Ventura rack

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Definitely good timing, we have the bike here , arrived yesterday and will have
    it completed today.

We will make jigs etc  and should be into production next week, but with
support industries closing over the Christmas period, it will most likely not be
    available till mid January .

Our Aus distributors should have all the models information next week.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yay for Ventura & yay for Kawasaki.
