hey all
as some of you know im in the middle of painting my bike.... my fairings were pretty shitty to start with... with cracks, paint scuffs and dodgy repairs all over them... so i set about repairing etc and i have some progress pictures that i took with my mobile phone...

i havent yet done the fuel tank so the pics will look a bit funny... im either going to do that now or take it to the workshop to get done... decals are on the way

thanks boz...

im trying not to put that many decals on the bike... just the 'yamaha' on the tank and perhaps the bottom of the side fairings.... and FZR on boths sides... and im getting a couple of fzr250.com stickers made that ill put on the rear side fairings ... its just text... nothing special..

i got a guy i know from another forum to make them up...

i was really happy with the way the colour came out... ill post more pics when the tank and decals are done...

cheers

Are you painting the bike yourself? I was gunna get mine painted but they sed $800-$1000. Now i want to paint it myself, i have a friends who used to be a signwriter, but he sed hes gotta find some time. What type of paint did u use, I like the colour, and how much do u think the total would be?

yeah i painted it myself,.... its a time consuming and messy job....
you have to have the patience to repair, sand and bog and sand everything really well.... people say preparation is the key and theyre not joking.... but the results are worth it ...

how much would it cost? it depends if you have the equipment ... an air compressor, paint gun, etc. if you dont, thatll set you back a bit... maybe at least $50 for the paint gun and air compressors are expensive.... at least $120 i guess....

the paint itself isnt that expensive... i got mine for about $75 for a litre... then you need thinners (about $30) and top coat (about $30)....

and then theres all the other stuff like wet'n'dry, face masks, primers, etc. and the time and effort it takes to remove existing stickers grrrr

i can understand that theyd charge that $1000 for it.... cos i dont think id do it again for a while....

cheers

Bike looking homestarr ahha..
The most annoying part of painting the bike yaself is the sanding and scrubing and sanding and scrubbing ... **** i done it so many times.. i had to prep up my fairings for the painter to save costs. Lucky I had my mate do it whos a Professional Painter!

Wow that looks great!

I'm in the process of painting my bike also.

What bog did you use for the fairings? Is there a bog for plastic? Mine has had some scraps and splits from falls.

How did you fix the splits?

hey kil41t
i used some plastic putty stuff that i got from repco... it was a brown/orange type colour... but im pretty sure you can use normal automotive bog. as for the cracks, you should probly get them plastic welded at a bike mechanic but i just fibreglassed mine. you can get fibreglass repair kit from hardware stores for cheap cheap.

Thanks mate. I found a guy through the oroads forums that does plastic welding so I'm gonna give him a try. The fiberglass idea sounds pretty good though.

Also look into stuff called plastex (http://www.plastex.net.au/ ). Great stuff for repairing minor cracks. I have used the fibreglass and plastex in combination - I fibreglass the back of the fairing (because then I do not need to be neat about it) and then plastex the front.

sorry folks... ive been totally flat out with work...

ive put some decals on the bike... not that many as i prefer the clean look... but i havent actually got around to painting the fuel tank blue yet....

so nothing much has changed.... the red and white fuel tank doesnt really bother me because my helmet is red, blue and white too... and my jacket is blue and white...

so i guess its a work in progress still....
