Hey every one i finally got my bike back on the road and registered yesterday !! And i just got out of hospital this morning !!!
Here is a lesson to new or in-experianced riders.
You see i had to get a new rear tyre and a new front brake lever to get my bike road worthy and registered, It passed and i was stoked to have my bike going again after two years off the road(yeah i'm a slack arse!!)

Now i live in VIC in a town called SALE and ifn you know anything about our weather you'll know that it rain's here often, as it did yesterday.
So with my bike registered and ready to go i sat at home eating toast and watching an episode of "The Simpsons" on DVD waiting for the rain to piss off so i could go for a rap on my freshly painted and streetfightered FZR! the rain soon stopped and i was out cruising with a grin from ear to ear.

Now this is where it all went to ****!!!

Basically i was looking at the car in front of me that had just pulled out from a driveway on the right hand side of the road, it pulled into my lane but went out wide to the left and his right indicator turned off.
Well i thought he'd pulled wide to let me pass but as i gave it a squirt to go round him he flicked his right indicator on and turned to park! (the road i question has parking in the center of the road)
Now i shat myself and stood on the rear brake like a dick and didn't even touch the front brake as i'd just changed gears and my finger was off the lever

I slid like i was on ice and slammed the side of the car crushing my my left leg between the rear driver's side door and the nice thick DELTABOX frame that my bike roll's on.This resulted in a fair amount of force which instantly slit my leg open and ruptured a big ol' chunck of muscle!!

Now don't be fooled cause i was only doing about 40kph when i hit the skids but this is the worst thing!!
In case you didnt know a new tyre has a chemical coating over it to prevent the rubber from going "foul" which is very slippery even in dry conditions, remember i was in the wet!!!

Well the bike did ok and didn't suffer any damage other than a bent gear lever and a broken front brake lever(the new one i'd put on it 4 hours earlier!!)

As for me, well i have 30 internal stitches and 10 external stitches in my left lower leg, and my leg hurts!!! This is somewhat tame considering i used to be a professionall B.M.X. freestyler and have more screws, plates and rod's in me than I'ROBOT!!(i've also had major brain surgery twice!!)
But still, it sucks to crash and get any kind of injury so BE CAREFULL!!

The moral of the story is Don't try to judge the traffic as it never does what you want it to do or think it might do, And don't ride a "green" tyre in the wet cause they're dangerous enough in the dry!!!

Take care everyone and i'll see ya out there in a couple of weeks!!!

Ben.

No good about your off! Hope you heal well and quickly.

And in addition to your advice about riding green-tires -> also don't use any tire cleaning stuff on your bike tires! It may look good, but you end up with VERY MINIMAL traction. (I mention this only because I recently learned of a second person who succumbed to the desire to have nice and black tires on a bike...)

Sad news indeed. When the tire was fitted did they warn you of the siuation with new tires? Yes the need to be scrubbed in, about a 100 miles (160 km's) or so. But I have an article from a Bridgstone rep that states that they do not use a mold release compound on their tires. This is the slickness that you speak of by being "green". I don't beleive it, and I still scrubb my tire in carefully.

Best of luck on your recovery and best of health.

Yeah i actually know all about "green" tyre's the fact is that i was out with the intention to go sliding around corners and wear the tyre in but i didn't even get 700m down the road and it was all over!!(NOTE the crash was not a result of riding like a knob, i was on my way out of town to an industrial area to hang a few nut's and back the baby out of some nice tight little turns!!).
I've had the experiance as my good friend is a profesional stunt rider and i used to change his tyres and prep the bike between shows.
I also used to work for MONZA IMPORTS in the warehouse and was 2ic of every Dunlop moto tyre that came into the country.

So i guess it doesn't matter how much you know sometimes cause every now and then the **** can hit the fan in the blink of an eye and if you not 100% on the ball you'll end up with a bloody big hole in your leg and a red face!!(i swear every bastard i know was there within a minute of me hittin the deck.

Oh by the way, the guy i hit was actually a good mate of mine!
Poor bugger, i'll never forget the look on his face as i slid toward's him.....
Very haunting.

Ben

Damn man that is a hard luck story! I'm just about ready to get back on the bike after 6 weeks off with a broken hand (due to a push bike "off") and am gonna take it easy for a bit just so these things don't happen - nothing sucks like an injury keeping you off the road. Especially when its not your fault - its a good reminder to everyone to keep alert and never while on the bike. Good luck with the recovery.

Sounds like you had some bad luck there, I hope that you get well and are back riding soon.
