    Hi guys, new to these forums, i've got a 89' 2kr fzr250, and i was wondering if anyone has attempted to modify the 'speed' light that comes on when your going faster than 80km/h to a rev light ? as in lights up when your past a cirtain amount of rpm so you dont hit redline ?

    thanks

    Good idea! Though I don't know how to do it... if you solve the puzzle please share.

    i was thinking about it, and it might be a bit complicated, as there needs to be something to trigger the light when i hit that cirtain rpm, and i have no idea what can do that on a tacho

    I read someone modded their red light to come on when the radiator fan turns on. Not as good as the shift light idea, but pretty easy to implement.

    Would be interested in shift light too if you work it out <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

    yeh, ive got the 2kr as well, and i doubt its digital, but im sorta thinking about how 'monster tachos, with shiftlights' in cars work, some of them have a needle where you point to the cirtain rpm and the light goes on there, so im guessing something like that would work ? needle goes over it triggers a circuit connection and the light goes on ?

    electrical stuff is easy.. but I follow what your saying.. what about a magnic pickup inside the dash and a tiny one on the neddle like they use for windows sensers in house alarms.. that sort of thing

    We sell all those monster tacho's and **** at my work at Autobarn. Im gonna take the bike in this Friday and get our fitter to have a look at it and see what he says about the conversion. He should be able to tell me if it is actually possible or not.

    Thought of another mod today.

    Not sure how hard it would be...

    Anyway, I was thinking you could set it up as a 'low petrol' light. Make it come on about the same time you need to change to reserve. Save those embarrsing slow downs/stops in traffic.

    My guess is it would be a lot harder than changing it to a shift light lol.

    yeh i was thinking to put something on the tacho face and something under the needle, hence when the needle crosses the pin,magent watevr on the tacho face it lights the light up, but not too sure on a way on how it can keep the light on, as the connection goes on and crosses through and then stops

    still thinkin

    what about turning it into a charge light so when the volts drop below a point it comes on .. like the lights in the car that comes on when its using battery power and not putting it in the battery ( It happens to be all the time when I ideal the car with the stereo on)

    <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.cr-x.org/cbr250/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10583">http://www.cr-x.org/cbr250/forum/topic. ... C_ID=10583</a><!-- m -->

    pretty long read but its like this:
    -shift light with 7 leds.
    -cost: 130 i think
    -either curved or straight (to fit round tacho etc)
    -programable when first light n last light comes on..in between is incremented.
    -professionallay made pcb, plastic case etc
    -easy to install, 3 wires
    -auto dimmer
    list goes on..
    but yeah..looks good and pretty cheap too...

    The tacho on the FZR works off the ignition pulses to the coil. 1 pulse per revolution of the crank. So it would be possible to put a shift light and/or digital tacho on the fzr..

    wtf.. lol, silliest thing ive ever heard, ride ur bike enough there will be no reason for a rev limiter light, or a 'speed' light. know your bike, watch your speedo.
