Does anyone know whether the CDI box needs to be reset or recalibrated when it is coupled with a new engine? I have traced all problems with my bike back to this box. Will buying a replacement possibly fix the problems I have with starting the bike? I have checked and troubleshooted all other possibilites and am on the point of tearing my hair out.

    Any help would be great!

gday mate u shouldnt need a new cdi for a new engine if the engine u put in was the same as u took out but it might help if u talk to a mechanic and ask his opinion theyre a great bike when theyre running but being an import causes new probs as most mechanics dont know what ur talking about but thats a pretty general question about the cdi i dont think ud need a new one but u may have to get it callibrated to suit ur new engine good luck

Ummmm if your CDI is made for that engine then there is no reason to get a new one you shouldnt even have to get it recalibrated. It might be that the CDI unit has a problem with in its self not a problem with the engine. As I dont know what model bike you have I can tell you much but to be on the safe side you would want to keep the 3LN engine with the 3LN CDI and the 2KR engine with the 2KR CDI. All bikes from 1989 up till now are 3LN frames, 1HX engines and the 1986 till 1989 are 2KRs.
