hi my names loc, im pretty new to all this bike stuff!
juss got myself a 3LN fzr250r 91 model last week and its been mad as since then. it would start up easy and go great. recently the battery died and i charged it up and it started fine then, but now im having trouble starting the thing up. i am not sure if its the cold weather, or if its flooded or it wont spark up. ive tried the choke thing and it only starts sumtyms and then ill would hold the rev and it would die out. its really pissing me off dont no wat to do!

    hey man

I have had the same problem as you and posted it under "problems starting in cold". Boz was able to give some advice. basically key to starting it is persistance. Takes me ages in the cold to get it started, have to make sure your not too gung h and drain the battery like i have (when your 20 miles from home too)

Some tips if it is the cold (and not other issues like battery/starter):
    - Always use the choke (only when the engine is cold, not necessary if it has been ridden recently and still warm)
    - When starting - get it to turn over, then let the throttle off so it sounds like it is just about to stall (keep choke on). It will stay here for a while and eventually it will 'catch' and rev properly - you will hear it when it catches and then you can rev as per usual. Openning the throttle too much too early will cause more problems starting. I find it sometimes takes as little as 5 seconds, sometimes up to 30-40 seconds to get it revving properly with this method.

As long as it continues to run you won't drain the battery. If it does stall a few times accidently (i.e. 3 - 5 times) let it sit for a minute then try again.

A new tip I was told yesterday (eavesdropping on a conversation in another forum) was to actually roll the bike back and forth a few times, and then turn the bike on and try starting. Apparently this is good when the starting motor is still working, but not at 100% (does something with the starting motor brushes or some such thing)

And finally - make sure your spark plugs are in good order (clean, and proper gaps). if not you may want to get some new ones (cr8e for the 250)
