    It certainly does!

Question: I know that at the beginning of the season (pre-season actually) that many bikes remain black or plain because they have not finalised sponsorship. Is this why Rossi's bike is black? Or has anyone heard whether this will actually be kept throughout the season? Matches his leathers quite well though...

I always thought that Rossi was such a big anti-smoker that he refused to ride with tobacco company sponsorship. How money will change things...

(to be fair he wanted a new opportunity, and I guess his desire for opportunity overcame his anti-tobacco style)

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but a news story today in The Age discusses Rossi's endeavors this past week at Phillip Island.

    http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5478,8716938%5E11088,00.html

He apparently beat his lap record by 0.02 seconds (1:31.4). But others were ahead of him still including Colin Edwards (1:31.06), and Sete Gibernau (no time given, just said in front) (both Honda's). It sounds like Bayliss (Duc.) was up there too.

It seems like the machine does offer an advantage, but the rider makes up for a lot too! Considering how poor Yamaha did last year it seems Rossi is already making inroads to winning - or at least getting on the podium - this year.

    Official unnofficial lap times:
    Colin Edwards (Honda) – 1'31.06
    Sete Gibernau (Honda) – 1'31.37
    Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) - 1'31.40
    Max Biaggi (Honda) – 1'31.40
    Nicky Hayden (Honda) – 1'31.67
    Alex Barros (Honda) - 1'31.75
    Makoto Tamada (Honda) – 1'31.84
    Ruben Xaus (Ducati) – 1'32.11
    Loris Capirossi (Ducati) – 1'32.16
    Carlos Checa (Yamaha) – 1'32.32
    Troy Bayliss (Ducati) – 1'32.45
    Marco Melandri (Yamaha) – 1'32.58
    Neil Hodgson (Ducati) – 1'33.18
    Shane Byrne (Aprilia) – 1'33.22
    Jeremy McWilliams (Aprilia) – 1'33.66
    Norick Abe (Yamaha) – 1'34.40

It is amazing to see how far up Rossi is in comparison to the other yamaha riders! He is mixing it with the honda's - the only rider to do so! I'm quite impressed.
