    Hi everyone,

I bought this from ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/271461854742?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT I know my first mistake, I can get everything to work and light up except for neutral.
For some reason it will not light up, if I run straight power to it then yes the light glows green. I am thinking that maybe when it is in neutral that the power supply on the old gauges closes, so it gets no power and then lights up....also with that speedo the background lights come on as soon as you put the key in but know biggey.

So could some one please help me to get the neutral light to light up when in neutral, is their something I can hook up in the line to help me.

    thankyou again

I'm no expert but I think you will find that you are in the right path with the neutral light.

The original wiring will most likely be positive to the light, and then growing wire through the switch in the gear box that is open when in gear and closed when in neutral to complete the circuit.

Great thanks for the input so if I clean the switch etc is their any way to make it work?
    Or what have I missed?

Can I swap the lead around in the gear box somehow to make it work

Always remember with electrical that there will always be multiple ways to achieve result.

It seems that the neutral light on the speedo is set up for the positive wire being switched as opposed to the set up on the GSX where the negative is switched.

I can't imagine that you would be able to change the switch in the gear box but if you can you would need to run a positive to the side of the switch that is currently grounded out. When in neutral you would then close the switch and complete the circuit.

You can also achieve the result by using a relay.
You will need a normally open relay. Put a positive to one side of the coil and on the other side of the coil connect the wire from/to the neutral switch. So then when the bike is in neutral the switch will close, complete the circuit and pull in the contacts.
On the contacts you will need a positive on one side the a wire out to neutral light on the speedo
So when bike is in neutral, switch closes, coil energises, contacts close providing 12v to the neutral light, light on, bike into gear switch opens, coil de energises, contacts open, light out.

As I said first up I'm sure there are many more ways to do this.

So was thinking about this issue as I am going to start the new wiring my bike and was thinking about your oil pressure switch. Is your light working correctly? Only ask this as it would appear that the oil pressure switch also appears to be the same set up as the neutral.
Also how do you test this as you wouldn't want to run the bike on low oil?

Take the wire off the sender (switch) unit in the crankcase and touch to earth. Light should come on.

Any of you blokes making these GSX mod bikes want a Suzuki speedo. It came off a TF185 ag-bike but would look cool on your mod with a clean up and new paint. Just pay the postage.

The neutral light, being an LED is polarity sensitive and will only work with the power going the correct way. How did you work the relay? The light has to be earthed all the time, and power supplied through the relay when the neutral switch earths the relay.
I used one of those speedos on my Suzuki bobber and could not get the neutral light to work, so left it blank.

My wiring loom didn't allow for my lights to be LED on my speedo, I had to wire in a resistor into the loom for each of the lights. They guy at Jaycar helped me with which resistors to use.

    *EDIT* 10 ohm i think....

Hi Rdickens at this stage no, we still could not get the neutral light to work. It lights up but won't work in the neutral position, ours was from eBay so your one might be different.
We tried a relay but it did not work either I hope you get yours going.
We decided just to leave the neutral light and move on.
    Sorry

Thanks for the reply. I hope I can figure it out. The speedo will be the last part of this project.
