Hi guys, I've got a 1991 ZXR250 C model bike with an A model engine in it. The engine was running, although rough at times for the past few months. It would hesitate when revving past 4-6k rpm and when past this range it would run fine. Eventually it stopped starting and so I did a compression test. Results were something like 90 60 90 90. Clearly I either needed a new engine or a rebuild. I got my cylinder head reconditioned, although this hasnt raised my compression high enough for it to run. My guess is the pistons/rings are next. The inner diameter of my A model block is about 47mm. C model pistons Outer Diameter is about 48-49mm. Do you guys think it would be possible for me to use new C model pistons and rings and overbore my A model block to fit this? Thanks
I have a similar hesitation on my C model and it was a failed seal in my carbs letting in too much air, Litetek.co do seals kits for these carbs so you can rebuild them as good as new. http://litetek.co/Carb_Kit_Kawasaki_ZXR250.html I have found some A model rings on-line - see http://www.brooksbarn.co.uk/ZXR250-PISTON-RING-SET-STD-1989-1990_A10JLO.aspx thanks Chris
Anyone found pistons yet? I'm onto some chinese sellers on alibaba, if I have any luck I'll post up the details. (pistons for zxr very hard to find) Edit; I spoke to a guy named Ken in West Heidelberg by phone who races ZXR's, while in Melbourne I'll pay him a visit and may need to take notes, very clued onto baby ninjas, hopefully he'll shed some light onto keeping these old bikes alive.
Hi, have seen OEM rings on eb@y sourced from Japan, also try the USA they seem to stock more zxr250 parts ESP the a-model. Ps the C-model motor parts are available locally due to same basic motor as balius 250.
