So after many many months of messing around with trying to find out why my bike will not rev above 12k rpm i took it to get dynoed and found out its running lean due to the slip on exhaust (straight through). He has made the bike run as rich as it could which helped it get to 13-14k rpm but its not very smooth. So it looks like my only real option is to rejet the bike. I dont really want to spend much money on it because im off my p's in 8 months but it would be nice to ride the bike properly until then. How much do new jets cost? How hard are they to fit? Is there anyone in melbourne who wants to help me do this for cash / beer lol. THanks
The exhaust was cut half way down for the slip on. Id have to fit a whole new exhaust from the headers back and ive heard thats a fairly big job
Nah not really mate. 8 bolts at the head and one or two more holding your exhaust to the bike, it's normally a 5 minute job to pull off a whole exhaust - taking the fairings off takes the time. There's not really much to it. I think rejetting your bike is going to be a whole lot of mucking around when for a little outlay you could probably source a second hand exhaust.... if you want help fitting/changing it I'm in NW melbourne and I'd be happy to help you out. Give the dudes at ringwood a call I'm sure they'd have one, or findapart.com.au Should be able to source a system for $100-$150 I'd think. No harm in trying anyway, rejetting/retuning is a lot for the sake of an incorrectly installed slip on.
Hmmmm. I still have the old muffler. Maybe i could go checkout a exhaust joint and see if they can use the slipon to some how weld it back up with the stock exhaust on there. If not help would be awesome mate thanks heaps
I'd keep it simple, get a quote from Kiffsta for freight and buy his one. Shouldn't be much If not, PM me and drop in sometime we can have a look. A metal fabricator may be able to do a weld around and put the stock one back on.
So i had a look, trying to courier down the exhaust is going to cost an arm and a leg lol. Stu which guys in ringwood were you referring to?
try http://www.greyhoundfreight.com.au/ they have some really good prices from depot to depot. also, if freight is really expensive, check out ebay and gumtree for bikes being wrecked close to you
Eastern motorcycle wreckers. 8 Olive Grove, Ringwood VIC 3134, Australia +61 3 9870 9209 Or throw it on findapart.com.au and let the wreckers contact you with pricing. Usually works a treat for me.
So ive spoken to a few people who own across's and they are running aftermarket exhausts and are not having the same issue i am which leads me to believe it may be something else. I currently have the bike on the richest needle setting which makes the bike run like a pig down low but gives it a little more top end but it still wont rev out to redline. Since the carbies have been rebuilt with new seals and all that crap it could be the fuelpump dieing and not flowing enough fuel ? how can i check? Thanks
Yeah mechanic did all of that and balanced. Even ran it up on the dyno but couldnt get it rich enough to rev out through the top end. He fit me in short notice and got it running best he could but didnt have time to look into what the actual problem is. He suspected the exhaust was causing it to run too lean but a guy sent me a video of his across running with no exhaust and revving all the way to redline with no issues, which leads me to believe its not that.
I honestly dont remember i changed them about a year ago and just replaced them with the same ones that were in there, they probably need doing again because its running so rich in the bottom end atm, what would you recommend. ALso the bike will rev out a bit more going down hill, and seems to run better on warmer days.
Whatever the service manual says / ie stock. Not sure for the accross but it should be in the resources section
