Hey dudes, seems most of the information getting around for upgrading the fzr250 is all relevant to the newer models. Has anyone tried first hand to fit an r6 rear shock to a 2kr, or a fzr400 spring to 2kr forks? Or will i have to find out the hard way Cheers
Hi mate, As with the 3ln, the R6 rear shock will bolt in, just takes a little help and force. the 3ln and 2kr rear shock is very close in set up. if your chasing a 3ln twin disc set up for the front let me know, I have the forks, triple clamps, wheel, calipers and good discs lying about. all the best.
Hi, I have a 2kr too and I've been looking for suspension upgrades. For the front, I have ordered .70kg springs (I first got .55kg ones but they were too soft) and I tried 15w oil but I will go back to 10w oil I find it too harsh over potholes and bumps. As for the rear R6 shock, on fzr250.com there is a how to for the 3hx or 3ln I think and it looks easy, but on the early 2kr, the linkage is really weird, here are some pics of mine. I know it's dirty and rusty... So basically the dogbones are linked togther with a transverse section that "press" the dogbones into the swingarm so they can hold in there without any bolt in the swingarm (just with tension), so I could not swap these dog bones with regular ones (bolting at both ends)... I didn't measure the 2kr and R6 shock yet (I bought i already) but I will probably need custom dog bone and if you guys have advice about faisability or tips it would be nice. Also, is there any use for these free holes on that picture? Thank you
its do-able with the 2kr, as said above is slightly different but not impossible. a small inset will be needed to cover between the legs of the shocks.
What do you mean by a small inset? And what's the easiest way to do it you think? I can see some methods but it looks complicated or not so safe... Maybe a threaded rod between both legs (at the place of the actuel transverse section) and bolted at both ends? but the biggest problem would be to make the right connexion into the swingarm no? I would need the "male part" to be the exact right size to fill the holes in the swingarm no?
sorry I meant insert not inset. so the R6 and 3ln shock has two legs from the end of the shock rather than an eye - so I would suggest remove the original shock and mount the R6 shock and find a round insert spacer to fit between the legs of the shock that big enough for the bolt to go though if you get me? or have a look at the 02 R6 shock, seems to have eye's both end. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/02-Yamah...hock-17A-/130569840301?_trksid=p2054897.l4275 this is what i would have on my 3ln currently
The problem isn't mounting the shock itself (with some inserts and spacer I should be fine) but the shock is most probably longer or shorter than my OEM shock, so I will need new dogbones. And I can't see how I could fit normal dogbones (of the right lenght) easily through the swingarm holes since they aren't bolted there, just pivoting. Maybe that I'll be lucky enough and the shocks will be the same lenght but I'm sceptical. What difference in lenght could be considered OK without needing new dogbones?
I'm sorry I just got what you mean about the eye. I didn't realize that before and I'll just forget sbout the project I think. Too much trouble.

2013 r6 shock is within 10mm of same length, will this be close enough to not have to dick around with customizng dog bones? i bought it already so i hope so. standard 2kr is 300mm, the 2013 r6 shock is 29mm I will machine up a insert and bolt it in, see how it goes.
