the new kit went into the carb and I set everything to stock settings. She started first time with a bit of choke and I let her idle for about 15-20 minutes. Tried to take her for a ride and she wouldn't break 4k rpmrpm and as soon as I came to a stop she stalled. I had to try and start her and I could only do it at full throttle and the bike would barely idle. I am now totally out of ideas.
Pull your plugs out, take a photo and post it here, we can help diagnose what the problem is. Don't feel disheartened, you're almost there! I can assure you that we've all had the frustration with niggling issues like you're having now, you can do it!
I concur with aj. What are you're plugs like have you flooded them before? Could they be fouled? I had abit of trouble with mine after the Litetek kit, as I had undone the sync screws and put the carbs completely out of sync. It would only rev to 7k and rough as balls after 3k. Also I found that the oring for the pilot screw is a touch thicker and needed to go an extra turn out. Mine are set 3.5 turns out.
All of the plugs have heavy carbon fouling. I think she's running too rich still. Air filter is clean. The float heights are at 13mm, I had to move them down from 15-17mm, But I'm still running the 125, 128, 128, 125 jets. The pilot screw is at 2.5 turns out. Before failing to start she would not go past 4k rpm.
How old are those plugs? Maybe grab a new set because they don't look good at all. If they are new we definately need to work out how they are that dirty.
They're about 2 months old. I've had them out before and gave them good clean about a week ago. I think it's running rich.
Hmmmm, that is interesting just watched the video. It's strange how it dies could you keep it going on just the choke? If you have already cleaned those plugs recently they are cactus now. New ones are needed. That should get it too fire.
Agreed with Huntsman, you need new plugs! Get a set of iridiums, cr9eix, will help this problem, mine ran like **** with normal plugs but became perfect with iridiums!
No, the choke didn't do much of anything, I had to keep full throttle just to get her started. I'll get some new plugs tomorrow, But I want to find out what's fouling them. I might have another look at the carbs as well.
Do the bench sync again and up your pilot screws a half turn. Brand new plugs and a caning to blow the carbon off your valves and you should be all good!
To set the fist butterfly to sync the rest turn the idle screw so it just shows the hole like this pic then follow the guide again http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/how-to-bench-sync-your-carbs.2053/
I think let them out another half turn but that's based on my experience with my bike. When you put it back together with the new plugs and it runs, take it for a ride around the block and pull a spark plug to check it
Try running it with some 'start ya bastard' or equivalent, see what happens. If it run's properly you've got a fuel supply problem, if it doesn't run, you've got a spark problem. ( given that you've checked compression is ok)
Well, I didn't have enough cash to get some iridiums so I just cleaned off my spark plugs with some sandpaper and petrol. She's running a bit better, but the stutter is still there. I managed to capture a small snippet of the stutter on video. When this happens there is no acceleration. Also when I was pulling in, I was at about 3/4 throttle.
plugs are $5 for each one at supercheap auto... just get non iridiums for now, either way you need new plugs
