Andy, Ill try dig out what you want now ie rear disc that will fit on as oem with no hastle..if you looking at new then eBay's fine as there's a few on there..breakers is good too for used but from what I hear this bike isn't that common in aus so i'll get the other manuals out and cross ref part no's for you when time allows..boydie your an absolute saint..900rr shock minus the collar is a direct replacement..310 length exactly but no issues with the bolt as ive machined one on our cnc machine which can't be far off perfect..not good at much but a perfect fit has made an hours work after work bring a smile to my face!!!! Would never have done it mate and it was just at the end of its settings so lower weight now and i'm hoping for firm and controlled..pics to follow..the fairing of the latest project to the bodyshop in my work has commenced..make that not that far off lol..plastic welded high build primer and lots of man hours later..should give you guys some cool pics in the next week or two!!! 3JK colour code as per factory andy..that's your bike!! Manual upload of the workshop stuff is going..on chapter 4 now so not too long to go guys..struggling with my IT skills at first and then a broken scanner..the misses has got us another today so no excuse!!!

Boydie..forgot to mention the jets are 105 outer and 110 inner as std..leaves a gaping hole at 7-9k rpm..by gaping I mean 4-5hp but if you go up on the mains it leaves a chasm..and by that 6-8bhp loss at sub 9k which leaves it gutless and only just able to rev through..much dyno time and headaches later I came out with 120 outer and 115 inner..don't ask me how as I know the logic around the outers running cooler than the inners but its worked on three now..coolant hits the middle sleeves first..cant imagine with Suzuki's resources they got something so fundamental wong?? worked for me and only a pointer..i'll dig out the dyno curves so you can see what I mean..a lost horsepower or two means i'll never get to my 55bhp target lol..ill get there!! any advice gratefully received..and roll on the bank holiday weekend..three days of tweaking and I'm hoping for a ride or two in that too!

Andy, in Australia...metal gear (as Kiffsta said). I use them for sprockets as well.

Si, The ZXR250 also runs bigger mains on 2 & 3 for "cooling" reasons as well. I run the same sized mains across all cylinders on my drag bike and it runs fine (sort of...long story). Interested to hear about your experience.

Thanks all for the advice guys but forgot to mention that I'm in the UK...oops.

Simon. I was hoping to here from you I think I read somewhere on the site that you're in north wales?
Thanks for the help with the disc. I'm taking the original into work this week to see if I can reskim it but it's doubtful as there's very little left on it.
Yes this is my bike and as far as I know and can tell I'm pretty sure it's the original colour scheme, I have seen the same on some Japanese websites.
Looks like you're doing a proper job on the paint work. It will be a while before I get that far with mine and it will be getting resprayed in the shed!
Mine has got a few cracks/scratches etc... But nothing that can't be sorted apart from the left hand lower fairing that's got a piece missing. Not had any luck locating one of these so far, although I have found an 18 inch rear wheel (original has a flat spot) I did think about replacing it with a 17 inch but I'd like to keep it fairly original. I'm not one these "it's got to be 100% as left the factory types" but more keeping in the spirit of it.
I'm looking forward to seeing the paint as it progresses. If anyone's interested I can upload some photos my bike.

Andy, an RGV VJ21 disc should be a perfect fit and much more plentiful I would think. I say 'should be' as it's definitely they same diameter and bolt pattern, but I didn't measure the thickness. I will double check for you when I'm at my workshop tomorrow.

Si, looks like you have been busy! Busier than I unfortunately, its been a struggle to get any good workshop time in this week although I did get a little done (keep reading...)! Thanks for the tips on the jets, it appears mine have all corroded or been damaged somehow as I couldn't decipher any numbers off them, think I will just go ahead and order the sizes you suggest. Interested to know tho if these numbers were obtained with a stock engine, filter / airbox and exhaust? Also I'm curious about spark plugs, the GSX250F Across manual lists a CR7HSA but the bike had CR9HSA plugs. What are you running?

So a little bit of progress made this week. I started stripping out the wiring harness to save weight. It will only be a small saving, but I'm about 90kgs so every little bit will be needed in order to try and get competitive speed from this bike! I've attached a before and after pic, I started with 20 wires going through the main harness, now there are 10. Well nine actually, I'm probably going to need to pull one back through (whoops) I had nearly all of the harness stripped so it was easy to see the complete runs of wire. Removing the circuits for indicators and most lights was pretty easy, but things got trickier with the circuits that had common power feeds.

The wiring diagram I found here was a help, but it must be for the GJ72 as there are a number of differences. The biggest is that the main power feed (orange wires) has been split up with combinations of orange with coloured stripes and there is a fuse box with 4 fused circuits. If anyone requires more detail let me know as I'm probably the leading expert on GJ73a wiring outside Japan now lol. There is also a relay for the sidestand cutout which is also connected to the neutral switch. Without going into great technical detail, after a bit of head scratching I re-routed power from the fusebox output directly to the kill switch power-in feed, therby bypassing the relay completely so it could be removed. Seems to have worked fine as the engine cranks over and I have spark. The downside is that the neutral light now doesn't work, so I probably have to run a new wire directly from the switch to the globe, but it also seems to feed to the igniter box and I couldn't get any continuity readings from the switch wires. The switch is caked in crud so further investigation required to figure out exactly how it works. But so far so good, reduced the fuse box from 4 fuses down to 1 so will get a small inline fuse holder to replace that. I'm also going to wire the ignition into the hi/low beam switch, then its just a matter of tidying everything up.

Thanks for that. EBC do a replacement rotor for the GJ72A but don't quote one for the 73. However the same disc is quoted for the RGV VJ21 And the GSXR 400 so I'm guessing it's the right one.

Hiya m8..in Manchester uk as well!!!!!! Got to love this forum its the only one for us 250 guys and girls..worldwide lol!!! Andy that's the exact bike i'm fully restoring..correct colour scheme down to a tee...and yes i'd love to see any pictures of your bike..I wont be using this one that much but love to go out for a ride in summer sometime once were both all sorted..if its before that then it'll be the other one as that gets used whenever time allows!!! Your spot on with the brake disc as mentioned by boydie there pretty much interchangeable across gsxr400, rgv and of course the 72a..if you want to stay original and period then give this guy a call..he's in edinborough but has whats left of a 73a rolling chassis, frame wheels and disks front and back..mileage on the bike is 2000km so it will be as close to new as youll get secondhand..no is 07456950584 and his name is simon..he should be able to post you one..and he's also got the lower fairing piece you need though not sure on its condition..Ive got most of the bike already and would of been going up tomorrow to get the rest of it but (all plastics tank frame wheels disks) for 120£ but horror of horrors my vans broken down and it wont fit in the estate!!!!! He's a nice geezer well worth a try..Please start a thread or get those pics up!!!!

Boyddie!!!!! M8 you've got guts beyond mention!!!! If there's one thing I hate about bikes its electrics...looking at it my quest for knowledge on the subject has been answered..expect all electrical issues to come your way...and fear not if you ever need a spare loom you can have one from me foc if ever needed so long as you pay postage!!!!! I didn't realise how serious you were going with the weight saving but the tyre warmers should have been a clue..be interesting to see how low the weight goes m8..think its 140kgs or so as standard..not sure what your target weight is but it looks like whatever can be binned will be!! One question I've got is are you going with a total loss system or keeping the standard kit in place..I've given thought to the total loss route route as it'll save heaps of weight..but unsure as to all the pro's and cons and im deffo not an expert..there's the first of many favours..interested in your thoughts!! Just uploading the 73a manual now still a fair bit to go lol but i'll try and scan in the electrical bit for yus if it'll help asap..youve probably got it sorted already mate..i look at your loom and I get scared read terrified :):) Keep the pics coming boss :) i'm off back to the garage to drop an engine out and put last weeks engine purchase into the spare frame..should be up and running by 3 or 4 today fingers crossed..will hopefully post some pics later..wishing us both luck from the engine and electrical gods!!
    See yus soon fella
