Gday fellas, my name is Tom. I am the proud owner of a 1991 ZR250 Balius which I have off the road for a while because of a minor run in with the 5-0. During this time, I plan to give it a well deserved overhaul in an attempt to get her looking brand new again. Along with aesthetics, I am keen to bring it up to ZXR levels of power too.

My question is this, will ZXR250 camshafts fit in place of my Balius cams? I am also dismantling my carbs and fitting them with new seals (thanks to a link I found on this forum), so I am able to jet them accordingly.

I just want to thank everyone posting heaps of awesome information on this section of the forum, It really has been a godsend.

    Cheers,

    Tom.

I dare say yes. The Balius is pretty much a naked version of the ZXR with a more upright riding position. They shared a lot of parts. Sounds like you want more power, but have you looked into whether the different cams between the two models actually have different valve timing? They could be identical.

I know for a fact the cam profiles are different, but I'm not sure about the journal sizes.

Hey Tom, welcome to the forum, I had a feeling the cams were different as it was a differing state of tune, but cant be 100% sure if you can shoehorn ZXR cams in there .

    Cheers

    Chris

I fitted the cams up with no issues, I've just got some valve shims on the way to complete the top end.

I've also jetted the carbies to suit ZXR specs, plus one size extra for my mods. I fitted shims under the needles too.

I'll let the forum know how it all goes once she's back together and running.

whats restricting the redline on the balius, is it the cdi or is it mechanical?

Nothing restricts my redline, she goes all the way up to 19,000 . I think the later models have a different CDI. Mine's a 1991
