OK, now having checked I was wrong on the Pistons... there were some made in the USA previously, cant remember by who but XT pistons are different.
Now the info on the cams... you will need to make sure you are getting 30X cams. Here is the info from my original thread.
30X isnt always cast into the camshaft but if there is 48Y on there... dont bother, that is the standard cams from SRX, TT and 350 TT etc.
I dont really know how much difference the cams will make... but longer duration and bigger lift cant hurt :)

original 30X Camshafts from an XT250T. These are the Factory "hot" cam with the following specs.
    1984 SRX250 (JDM Version), XT250L (US) Intake 30X-12171-00-00 / Exhaust 30X-12181-00-00
    IN-OPEN (BTDC) 34 Degrees
    IN-CLOSED (ABDC) 62
    EX-OPEN (BBDC) 70
    EX-CLOSED (ATDC) 26
    OVERLAP ANGLE 60
    LIFT 8.3mm

This is the Standard cams that are found in the SRX250 as well as the mentioned XT350, TT350
    XT350, TT350 Intake 48Y-12171-00-00 / Exhaust 48Y-12181-00-00
    IN-OPEN (BTDC) 30 Degrees
    IN-CLOSED (ABDC) 58
    EX-OPEN (BBDC) 66
    EX-CLOSED (ATDC) 22
    OVERLAP ANGLE 52
    LIFT (BOTH) 7.8mm

Thanks for the detailed cam info Andych, I just messaged the guy selling 84 xt250 cams in hopes he can find a casting number. I will have to ship the cams & honestly have no tools to measure cam lift degree etc. So really hoping he can find some casting numbers to verify I'm not just buying a whole lot of wasted effort putting equally wussy cams back in place LOL

So the cam seller took pics, only casting marks are an i , e, 3 & 2
    Presumably i & e denote intake & exhaust. Unsure what the 3 & 2 mean.
Don't find 30x number on them anywhere, so all i can go off is the sellers word they came from an 84 xt250. Short of installing them & then measuring actual valve lift (should be about .5mm higher) I don't really have any tools to measure stuff like degrees or really even a good way to measure .5mm aside from a feeler gauge LOL

Not all XT250 had 30X cams. If it is a 30X cam it will be cast onto the camshaft.
If you have your existing cam you could measure using a vernier (wont be exact) and ask the seller to measure the same lobe on each cam.. if they are different then you are good to go.. the measurement should be larger.
If you delve int omy thread you will find pics of the differenece in the camshafts... I think.

Screenshot_20221126-095709_Samsung Internet.jpg Screenshot_20221126-095709_Samsung Internet.jpg OK so i think i may have found the post you reference on page 8 of your build thread... But I don't see 30x on the cams anywhere ?? But based on the remark the xt350 cams were in poor shape they must be the one on the right (marked "48y") ?
Is the "30x" cam the left one in pics in better shape & has just an E stamped in 2 spots ?

When you measured for lift did you simply use a calipers measuring from the base circle to the peak of the lobe then compared to yours ? That i can do tho my engine is complete & running so i have no stock cams out to measure for a baseline to compare if i can get the seller to measure his with that method.
I have questions about your xt350 swap too LOL ....theres a complete parts bike xt350 nearby "needs top end work" for not much more than these possible 84 xt250 "30x" cams cost. If i wanted to 350cc swap my srx250 could I just put the full engine in ? Did you only swap the barrel & head then deal with the oil feed & gasket issues because of gearing or kick start reasons ?

Yes, just measure the base circle to the top of the lobe. As you can see in the picture their is also a difference in the position of the lobes compared to the 48Y cam...
As for the 350 conversion... I wanted it to basically be as close to stock as possible in looks etc so that meant keeping the Electric Start... Plus I had a really good bottom end and there were no good complete 350 engines around... it was hard enough finding a good barrel as most had been flogged to death and rebored at leat twice.
I never bothered checking the gearing... that isnt hard to do with gear commander though.

Starting to wonder if i could fit calipers on my lobes inside the head if I pulled the valvecover so I can get a number for the seller to measure against. Oh & if i have the 2nv cams & these are true 30x cams i am looking at, the lift change is closer to 2mm vs the .5mm difference the 48y cams have, valves would go from only open8ng 6mm up to 8mm, a 33% increase !!!
I scoured "30x" cam pics this morning for over an hour & cannot find a single one listed as 30x that actually shows that cast on it anywhere, even on a NOS cam in a box with the correct 30x part# on it. And when i requested pics of any lettering the seller did not send full pics just the gear ends. Dont want to frustrate him (or you) asking too many ??? but can anyone verify what the casting numbers are on the 30x cams ?
I can clearly see a 48y on Xt350 cams online, i can see the 48y on andych's australian srx250 cams. I THINK i could see a 2 & or n on some of the usa srx cams (2nv cams), but in dozens of "30x" pics i see no 30x on them. Heres that NOS one, pics of both sides, but no 30x on it :(

How much time do you have before you have to commit to the seller?
I might be able to find a standard cam now that I have most of my plastic crates on shelves in my Garage but it may be a day or 2 till I can get to it.
I can then measure to total lobe height from base circle to top of the lobe.

Edit: I found an inlet cam...now all I need to do is find my Vernier :)

As far as your enquiry about using a 350 engine.... have a look at this thread in a different forum... the guy has never posted after April 2018 but you can see his SRX has a 350 translant and an Oil cooler... so this might be the better option for you.
That way you can keep your (hopefully) matching numbers engine to improve saleability in the future and give you a HP (big torque increase) as well. That is where I got the info on the 30X cams.

I (hopefully) have some time to figure out what cams are 30x, told seller precisely this; That i am still not 100% sure they are correct even tho he sent a pic of his 84 xt250 they supposedly came from. & I will try getting a good i.d. to go from & then if we can determine its 30x they are mine :)
But i am waiting to ask him for yet more pics top to bottom front & rear, hoping to maybe get my other info straight before I do lose his patience.

If you are able to find & get calipers on a cam in the next few days that would be awesome ! (& save me pushing my bike thru snow & pulling engine open too !) Really if i can find a good measurement spec of base circle to tip of ANY lobe on any cam with a known part #, even from a 48y, i can extrapolate the spec for a 30x going off the lift increase specs...

So Andych did you ever get around to installing your 30x cams ? Like are you running the aussie srx250/xt350 48y cams ?
    AKA the "medium" lift specs(7.8mm),
    or the 30x "high" (8.3mm)lift specs ?
    (I got srx250 USA "low"/ 6.3 mm lift i believe)
If you can measure ANY cam you have accessible, that you know for sure what it is (48y or 30x) i can do the math(s). Ideally (if you somehow still have your 30x cams out) the actual casting marks have me wondering currently. I did tell the seller I was hoping to see a 30x on it somewhere & he has yet to offer up an image showing that so really hoping can either peg down a cam lobe measure, or verify casting mark somehow.
Imagine if a 30x cam feels like an upgrade to you guys giving an extra .5mm lift, how it can change things on a US model that would gain a full 2mm from those cams ! I'm excited to find out :)

soaked up that SRX250 info link you shared above i think it was a week or 2 before i got my bike, during that phase i was just falling for the srx LOL & found it yet again yesterday while hunting 30x cam I.D. info. That thread, the great srx250 power debate thread, & your post over on advrider on the xt350 thread speaking of 30x cams & swapping in a xt350 are honestly what tipped me over the edge to actually buy the srx250. Locally a cheap SRX project for sale, a set of 84 xt250 cams & also an xt350 project bike.... all the ingredients are nearby :) After I read we got choked down one (which would explain why i could find little to no info on how "cool" an 87 srx250 was here in america) yet some magical cams could up it to JDM power levels, i was SOLD. I guess you can say i planned to get these cams almost before i decided to get the bike LOL
SRX does not have 1/10th the following here it does there, & i can only assume having cams with a weak 6mm lift is one good reason why
BTW that advrider xt350 thread you posted on is now HUNDREDS of pages long, & theres some really good info on xt350 vs tt350 & changes & upgrades buried in that xt350 "encyclopedia" that i am sure apply to you with your xt350 hybrid & also our srx250s with oil cooler info cams etc. Maybe you have kept up on it after posting ? I still have MUCH browsing & speed scanning of posts to do over there yet!

Nah...once I had the cams I didnt bother too much with the rest of that thread.
The 30X cams have been fitted to the SRX"350 engine which is in the bike and I am not in a position to remove the rocker cover so I cant get you any more info on casting marks etc right now.
I will measure the lobe height in the next day or so though.
You will no doubt find that there may well be carbie changes (you guys have all the EPA crap on as well) and possibly a TCI change that will affect timing etc. Cheack out the part number on the TCI, it is under the seat on top of the air cleaner.

OK... hopefully your seller will do the measurement the same as I have done...
This is an inlet cam 48Y which is from either SRX250 or TT, XT 350. IMG_6934.jpeg

I just measured across the lobe at 90 degrees to this pic and got 28.01 which gives (roughly as it isnt the best way to measure) 7.71mm lift or difference from Base circle diameter.
Given some wear... that is pretty close and you should be able to glean enough from that to satisfy yourself on the 30X cams.
Just to tease you a little more... Here are some pics showing the valves at full lift when assembled in the head.

And this one will help you with the Oil cooler questions...

I have never gotten to experiment with the laughing gas yet (on an engine at least, just at the dentists office LOL)
Always too afraid if I hid a sneaky pete size bottle under the seat, there would be about 10 seconds of fun before a several hours rebuild then becomes urgent ;)
Could always stick a turbo on the bike too, dont even have to plumb it into the intake to make the bike faster if you go afterburner mode like santa does....

Thanks so much for the pics & measurements Andych !! I will be forwarding this info to the seller ASAP.
Also seeing the inside of the filter hole helps visualize things too. After reading a bit on that advrider xt350 thread I think I understand the oil routing better now. From what I gathered the small hole at the bottom, that the oem cooler cap lines up to (& i THINK seals with an o-ring, but cannot verify that yet) is the DRAIN hole that more or less feeds the filtered oil back down to the oil pump & tranny. The oem cooler cap simply divides that hole off & adds a separate exit path thru a cooler (the Exit is upper bung/outlet) meaning the freshly filtered oil that would normally drain back down to the pump, instead gets pushed out the upper hole in the cap up near that top "bleed screw" then thru a cooler & back into the cap near the bottom where it goes thru into the drain galley. So we know which direction the oil flows now, & that it is not under much if any pressure. So concerns of pressure drop & diverting oil from the top end should be less scary :)

The small hole in the Oil cooler cap will need an O ring and it connects to the small hole (not any of the bolt holes) on the casing. That would be the drain line back to the sump. Oil should go from the pump through the filter and then on to the critical items like bearings etc.
OIl from the cam lubrication will just drain back by itself so wont go through the cooler.

Well I think I may have a pair of 30x cams coming soon, seller measured an 8mm difference from the base circle to cam lobe :) thanks so much for helping out with such awesomely useful information Andych !

Delays on the SRX250 project this year but finally got it running & Oil cooler works great, but bike had no power really, Could barely hit 100kph & my 2 valve SOHC 200cc bikes easily beat it :(
So I went thru carby & found torn diaphragm, now waiting a new one from the UK.
Since I have 30x cams to install I was hoping perhaps someone might have some info on the 3WP ignition box ? The box we got here in the USA is pictured below, anyone have a different ignition part number ? Maybe I need to source a different ignition box to suit the 30x cams ?

I would suggest looking for the TCI from the 250XT that was the original home for the 30X cams.
