Well thanks to Albo for the day off and for the perfect weather, I was able to catch up with well over 100 other bike enthusiasts at the Thursday VJMC Tooradin meetup.

Not a lot of little bikes, but some fantistic bikes on display from older classics to more modern.

Thanks to VJMC for the BBQ food.

There was quite a lot of interest also from the general public who were there with family and friends to soak up the atmosphere.

I have attempted to capture some of the interesting bikes or those types that other members have shown interest in with other post.

All bikes were very well presented.

The was an interesting little boxer engined Velocette and a very nicely presented VTR250 and an SRV250, which I have not seen before.

Nice write up Peter. Lots of great Japanese bikes in those pics. I noticed a few ring-ins as well...I didn't realise the VJMC allowed non-Japanese bikes.

The ring-ins are likely to be 2nd bikes and/or bikes from other clubs. The word gets out when you have an event like this.
Some of the guys from CRAB also hook into this Thursday event.
    https://www.facebook.com/CrabCancerResearchAdvocateBikersVictorianHermits/
They even manned the BBQ. A great bunch of guys and a great cause.

It was just great to see such a large variety of bikes on display. More bikes than you would often get at a highly publicised bike event on a weekend.
Some interesting characters to talk to as well.
I was speaking to one spritely old chap of 79 who really seemed to know his stuff and had quite a history with bike riding over the years.

    That makes sense.

Public Holiday and fabulous weather yesterday certainly made that a BIG event. There's normally 20 to 50 bikes at those VJMC Tooradin get togethers.

Weather is certainly improving... Henty Field Days had to close their gates yesterday at 11am with a 2 to 3 hr que to get parking.. Apparently unprecedented numbers and unexpected.... lucky I was there on Tuesday :)

The VJMc outing looked good... plenty of nice bikes.. I do like the SVR. they would be a fun bike by the look of it.

I would love to own the little SRV. I was looking for one after I sold my SRX collection, but none ever came up for sale. Too many bikes now, so good luck if you can find one Andy.

Went along to the weekly VJMC get together at Tooradin (half way between Melbourne and Philip Island) this Thursday. I haven't been riding much of late, so I was keen to get out and about. Rode down with Peter (@jmw76).

Plenty of bikes and the usual "older" VJMC crowd. Lots of chatting and discussion.

Lots of bikes already there at the 10am start time. Peter's MC22 is at the front of this group.

Got talking to a chap who imported a CB500 from New York. He said the whole deal including fees and taxes set him back $AUD11,000 (or was it $9,000). Given how poorly the Aussie dollar is performing against the USD I thought that wasn't too bad a price. This is the bike he imported. Followed by an Australian delivered version.

A few 2fiftycc bikes in attendance. This little SRX caught my eye. Pretty stock except for the muffler.

I think Peter has previously posted a pic of this Velocette, but after having a good chat with the owner, I thought I'd post another pic and details about the original can be found with this link. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velocette_LE
The owner had to replace the pistons, but as they are NLA, he installed a set of pistons from a CT110 which would have increased the displacement from 200cc to 220cc if the CT110 piston dimensions are the same as the original. The owner rode it from Mt Eliza to Tooradin which is good as most of the roads he traveled have an 80kph limit which is what his bike is technically capable of. Very quiet little boxer engine.

    Thanks @Frankster .
A few other details about the Velo LE.
    Horizontally opposed side valve engine.
    Shaft drive.
RWU telescopic shocks on front. Swing arm suspension on the rear.
Paniers are original as fitted to the police bikes in the UK.
This bike was extremely popular with the police for city traffic work due primarily to is quiet operation.
I believe the unit shown is a Mk111 model circa 60s.
The frame is made from folded sheet metal to make it cost effective. I am not sure that worked too well for them as the sell price was about 2 x that of a BSA Bantam.
4 speed gearbox. Earlier models were 3 speed.
Most of the bikes were delivered with a solo seat. The police radio telephone was mounted where pillion seat would be.

I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but this bike would probably be best described as utilitarian.
The LEs were among the last to be produced, to satisfy police contracts, before Velocette closed its doors in 1971.
By motorcycle standards, the LE had a good production life of over 20 years, despite the fact that it never really appealed to the mass public market.
