    Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this site found it while scouring the net for some help with a project I have. I've been riding a VTR250 for a year now while I like it it's quite lacking in power and I struggle to keep up with my partner that rides a Trumph Street Tripple. I love the aked street fighter look so he suggested when he saw a non runner ZXR250, that with it's 45 BHP instead of the current 30 BHP I was riding would be a great project for me to do, (with a little help probably). The guy said it was not running due to it needing a new battery and that it would need a new oil filter. The guy wasn't exactly truthful as we cracked the covers off to find the cam chain mechanism/guides. The plastic bush thingy has exploded and caused inshort with my girly explanation the cam chain set up has failed. The tentioner bracket was so worn it was able to push down onto the clutch basket. Were unsure which way to go at the moment, should we replace those parts or has this failure caused other issues with the engine. I can get a repacement engine in New Zealand this will set us back $700 including shipping to Golden Bay. But it's a massive part of my budget blown especially when the guy hasn't heard it running. I'll try and upload a video soon so you can all see the issue.

Any help will be muchly Apreciated.
    Best Wishes
    Angel

    Welcome Angel.
I would suggest you do a compression test or leakdown test to be sure that there are no bent valves from the failed tensioner allowing the cam chain to jump a tooth and letting the valves hit the piston tops. They are easy to work on and many engine parts are available from aliexpress.com.
    Good luck with your project.

No was from Dunedin and the second engine from Auckland. Unfortunately the first guy wasn't 100% honest about the bike. Nevermind, its been like pulling teeth to get in to where it currently is. Just need to get over this last hurdle.

Honestly these days I'd say you're better off doing a rebuild one one of these lil Rockets. Got plenty of motors in a shed in Nelson, when I'm down next I can put together a bit of a collection if you like

That sounds great thank you. I've sent you a PM. Our latest thoughts is that the issue stems from the battery cranking AMP not being high enough. Just ordered a higher cranking battery hopefully this helps the starting issue. Then there is the stalling at tickover probably needs the carbs balancing. So desperate to show her off around town now. She's definitely highly strung.
