I did some work on this bike for the owner (retired school teacher) a couple of years ago and he had done nothing with it since. He offered it to me for an acceptable price and the deal was done.
When home I was able to start it and it ran sort of ok, the wiring was smelling badly and inspection revealed melted connectors. Further investagation showed why, the fuse had been relpaced with a piece of fence wire. Fitting a fuse blew instantly the key was turned on. Eventually found a wire trapped between the frame tube and a mounting.

After several rewireing bits and new connectors I had all the electrics working as they should.

With the engine running and getting hot the radiator could not hold water and after dropping the oil/water mix it became obvious that a gasket was gone. Engine out and on the bench and the head gasket was well past its use by date. The water pump seal had also been leaking out the drain hole, so what does the PO do, stick a nail in it to stop the leak.

The valves were all good so cleaned up ok, head planned flat and while I had it down replaced the rings as they were at maxium gap. The design of the bits and machining is good on these engines, just let down by cheap material quality.
The cam runs in ball bearings, the rockers have roller followers and swivel ends to the valves.

After waiting weeks for bits to arrive from China I reassembled and fitted to frame. I increased the pilot jet one size as it was a bit hesitant off idle and made some changes to the muffler to try to quieten the noise and it fired up and ran sweet. Nice little engine so far.

I think both that bike and the Hyosungs are nicely styled and good looking machines - they might not be the fastest but they looks the part

Looks like it just needed TLC in one go to make up for being slightly neglected - nothing Murdo the Magician couldn't accomplish easily...

mongrel of a design under right hand side cover on engine. have a small bolt holding an idler gear from the starter. happens to crack the engine case as not enough webbing around it. a common problem that was fixed on the last motors sold in oz how do i know- had an engine replacement under warranty. also speedo is hopelessly fast and odometer not accurate.i parked mine as a lost cause.

Maybe you should pay @Murdo to breathe life back into it? That way you'll have something to race at Gunnedah when you eventually come back to the track!

27HP and a lightweight bike. Strip all of the 'road' bits off it and you'd have a handy track bike.

I will agree that they are a nice looking little bike.
A donor for an EV project maybe?

Well, their value isn't going to appreciate over time, so you might as well give them to @Murdo to get running. Maybe he can keep one as payment? As @jmw76 said, the bike would probably make a good donor for an EV conversion!
