    Hey all,

So my arm was lightly twisted into riding from Brisbane to Phillip Island for the MotoGP in October, on the ZXR.

What spare parts (lol) would people recommend taking (ZXR250C)?
    - Bulbs
    - Plugs?
    - HT leads
    - Rectifier?

There will be a couple of support vehicles but space might be a little limited...

Chucking on new ignition coils, new plugs and replacing all the fluids soon.

The below was done like a couple years ago now, but I've barely but any KM's on since.
    - Cam chain & tensioner
    - Valve clearances
    - Carb rebuild & syncing
    - Carb holders on intakes
    - All vac hoses
    - Rocket gasket & spark plug gaskets
    - HT leads, plug caps
    - Water pump shaft & impeller
    - Clutch hub
    - Clutch, throttle & choke cables
    - Wheel bearings & dust seals
    - Rectifer
    - Tyres

The ol' girl runs fine at the moment, my biggest concern is the electrics and wet weather.

    Cheers!
    Dan

If I had to do that trip I would take at least a week. Sleep somewhere comfortable and just do a little each day, but then I am a fossil. :)

I was going to use the AGREE emoji for this message and then I thought maybe Blair will think I agree that he's a fossil (he is of course), but I actually agree with taking your time and breaking the trip with some pleasant sightseeing and rest. Even if you take a tent and stay at nice camping grounds. Riding a ZXR250 long distance is NOT fun (in my experience and opinion).

Hey, all and sundry are welcome to call me a fossil or anything you like. I bet riding a ZXR250 is much better than riding a Honda Wave. I would want to sleep in pubs, not on the floor in front of the bar either.

A tyre repair kit, tyre pressure gauge, couple of spare spark plugs, chain master link, chain lube, spare clutch and throttle opening cables and the tools to be able to fit the above. A rag and some type of hand cleaner are useful if you do need to use the tools. A good service before leaving and being sympathetic to your bike on a long run will help. Also think about where you leave it overnight, covered or in the open air, and security when unattended. I also have roadside assist for those times when roadside repairs are not possible.

trouble is they are not a bike for packing a lot of stuff on especially if limited space on support cars and where you are meeting the cars ie if picking them up on the way ,modern tyres dont go flat very often and one of your fellow riders with more room is sure to have a kit , cables if in good order shouldnt give any trouble (in 50yrs of long distance riding only had a cable go once) YOU CAN ALWAYS PACK A FEW EMERGENCY CABLE ENDS IN AS THEY DONT TAKE UP SPACE (THEY BOLT /SCREW ON THE ENDS) the rd assist is a great idea if get the top cover as gives you long distance towing if needed , chain lube is a good ideas as is carb cleaner if pick up shitty fuel on the way, plugs a must ,unfortunitly security is a must now days so maybe a disc look etc as all you can do is slow the mongrels down... also enough money to buy a cheap trailer for the trip home if needed .. thousands of kls on rear sets ouch:lolsign: :neo::neo::bowdown:

Sheepskin seatcover will let you ride longer. Tools to adjust chain if needed.
Wire and tape can fix a lot too.....

    Cheers all for the input!
Yep I can be sure that its going to be an uncomfortable journey haha...

We are doing approx 500km per day, staying in pubs etc, no camping, I'm not built for that.
Back brace and sheepskin seat covers are going on the list

Group of 10 of us + couple support vehicles and tools and a trailer for the worst case scenario too so hoping I should be fairly well covered.

I chucked a nice shiny new chain on her the other day, and decided to give the brakes a birthday since they are fairly important :prankster:

    Day 1:
    Ipswitch >> Kyogle >> Tabulam >> Tenterfield >> Glen Innes >> Armidale

Body is sore, so so sore.

First casualty, Speedo has broken. The needle snapped in half (lol) then then went past the 0 and no longer moves at all...
How hard is it to disassemble?

    Day 2:
Massive shout out to @GreyImport !!
    Speedo is working a treat!

Armidale >> Tamworth >> Musswelbrook >> Colo Heights >> Penrith

2nd Casualty, headlight stopped working about after about 6 hours riding, and bike won't turn over.
    I'm thinking regulator area?
Battery was at 13.4V, get a little noise out of the junction box but no turnover at all...

Bump starts fine though so got a backup option lol!

Definitely sounds like a regulator. It's under the tank on the frame rail. Check for burnt pins. Clean you battery earth, engine earth strap, and main 30A fuse points if you can.

Best fix is an FH020AA or SH847 regulator with main harness bypassed (wire regulator positive and earth straight to battery). Will need to wire in the 6th regulator wire (white from memory) to one of the AC phase wires to run the headlight.

Just chasing down the starter circuit at the moment

I shouldn't have 12V to the starter motor at all times should i?
