Hi, new here as I have just found you due to endless hours of searching for answers to FZR issues.
Weve got a few bikes now, 94ZXR750, 97GSXR750, 2/2001 NSR150's & a 95 RGV250 & now an 89 FR 250 with a 91 engine apparently, yet to cross reference the engine No but the chassis is correct.
Anyway, dads a retired mechanic so we can do anything as long as parts are available. So easy now with the internet. In the old days, like more than 15 yrs ago, if you wanted parts you had to fly to where they were & carry them home in your luggage.
Weve almost got all the parts we need now but are wondering if they ran a fuel pump ?
I've had conflicting reports from everywhere.
The exploded parts diagrams show a pump & there is a connection in the wiring loom & we expected that there should be but they seem to be unavailable. We have seen new parts listed but not prepared to pay $235. Ive bought a new universal one, 2 to 5 Psi, inline unit off ebay for $18.
The electrics played up after we washed it, stripped down of all fairings & seat, we suspect the ECU under the seat might have got damp. There was no response from the exhaust servo & no spark, we blew her out with air & then she started but cut out again. Left her overnight, fully charged battery, & away she went & no issue since, sound familiar to anyone ?
Carbies tuned up ok after a major clean out, been full of water probably out of the tank, leaky tank lid I'd say left out in the weather. Ordered the 50pc Litetec kit & another issue ticked off the list.
Is the issue I read about the carb balance the fact that the tuning screws are underneath the carbies ?
Does anyone know what the stock pilot setting is & also the needle height, I've got the pilot screws out 3 turns & the needles are on the lowest/richest setting, they were on the second ring down. The chokes were ok except for one where the spring is rusted out & I suspect it may not have been closing completely.
What do you all use for valve shims ? Obviously a common shim as I haven't read about any trouble setting them.
Look forward to hearing your comments.
    Regards Mitchell

First thing is to see if you have a 2KR or a 3LN
    Heres model info
    http://my-x15.net/davesfzr250.html

Easiest way is the earlier 2KR has the 'skinny' steel frame and the 3LN has the wide aluminium deltabox frame + twin discs
3LN1 has twin headlights and the later 3,5 and 7 have the 'rectangular' headlight.

Also if the engine has been changed , check what carbys are on it (especially with the carb kit)....... I have 2 sets and you can see here what I encountered ....

    http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/my-fizzer.872/page-8#post-12250

Also , as can be seen in my thread , its a good idea to check jets and needles etc for correctness and condition.

Pilot screws : 3 turns out
Needle clip : 3RD from the top

These are what I believe are stock settings ..... its what Im going to start with anyway.

And yes they have a fuel pump.... some discussion here ..

    http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/fzr250-questions-and-looking-for-parts.1641/

Its worth pulling the fuel outlet off the tank as there are internal filters.

Heres all the resources for the FZR ....

    http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?resources/categories/fzr250.34/

And this member has just done his valves .....

    http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/fzr250-zeal-fzx250-valve-clearances-howto.1697/

Heres some info about sourcing FZR parts .....

    Hey Mitchell
You have a good cross section of motorcycles on hand. You will find yourself in good company on the forum, plenty of people willing to assist. I for one have used Litetek for my Suzuki Bandit and can vouch for the product, money well spent. Grey has given you the basic run down, he knows a lot about this bike, we hope to see his running soon.
Where are you located, makes it easy to guide you to sources for parts and members who may assist.
As always we enjoy photo's, so don't be shy and let us all admire you treasure trove of bikes, again welcome on board.

Yep Aldi, I've misplaced the bag of accessories, I put them in a safe place. The fork attachment works well though.

She's only had a clean up & new fairings, we intend to do a restoration eventually, got a few other projects to complete first.
We were worried that the 'Marlboro' might have been a bit over the top, but its a nice look. The tank is all white with a red tuning fork decal on each side. If the decals arrive this week I'll install them & clear it & she's ready for rego.

hey, your bike looks really nice, guys if any one can help me, im looking for a fuel pump for this bike and the dimensions of the decals as i am spraying all my ferrings and want to make me stensels to spray the decals instead of using stickers. ive tried buying over ebay and was epic fail regarding fuel pump,so if anybody has an extra fuel pump and starter solenoid laying around i wont mind buying it from you. im from south africa and the parts for this bike isn't very accessable, and if you do find some parts the guys want an arm and a leg for it. i built my bike from basically nothing and are a few items short. if anybody can help me please contact me.

Hi Graham, fuel pumps are hard to find, try the city wreckers here in Aus, if theyve got one I'm sure they'll post it to you. Check that the Zeal or Across pumps might be the same, there should be plenty of them around. My bike came without a pump & I found one on ebay, I think I paid about $15 + postage. Funny thing, from what I understand the last owner rode it as a commuter vehicle for 2 yrs without a pump. If you can find out what the pressure of the originals are then you can get one anywhere for $20, I tried a 3psi to 6psi but seemed a bit high, probably more like a 1 to 3psi. I think that is cuts in at 1psi & cuts out at 3. Good luck.

Can't help with the decals, mine came without fairings hence the new Marlboro set.
Big job ahead polishing the head & barrel, glad it's not me.
I'd be taking the head & barrel apart & cleaning it with a heavy de greaser & pressure washer then off to the sand blaster, then you'll have somewhere to start if your going to paint it.
I have a great cleaner product that is a de greaser & it has a quantity of acid in it, i suspect hydraucloric, & its applied with a tooth brush, brings up the aluminium like new all in 1 application, but don't get it in the barrel.
Make sure you have all the grease & crap off it completely or the paint will play up & come off then you'll be back where you started.
    Good luck

Yes from Aldi, yes I lined up for an hour & was apart of the stampede, they were all there for the leather jackets though. They come with other accessories for front & back applications, I had this set up for the front of the other bike & I have misplaced the bag of other parts, anyway this works well & is pretty stable.

Clear coated the tank & painted the mirrors to match.
Hooked up the tank & filled her up.
Started first go on the choke.
Took her for a spin & all is good.
The neutral light stays on as well as the oil light, I topped her up & up & up but didn't go out, must be the pressure switch, I'll drain it all out, measure the qty & change the oil, filter & switch.
Will same year model Zeal fork seals fit ???
    Same for the clutch plates.
I've recently fitted aftermarket seals to 2 other bikes & they both leaked, sick of it, genuine only now.
