    Hi all

Need some help have a 1989 zx250a, chassis number in middle 300

    1. Though I would change drive sprocket, rear wheel sprocket and chain bought the parts but on dismantling the drive sprocket discovered it is held on the shaft with two plain washers and two serrated washers and a circlip also instead of 14 teeth it has 15 teeth sprocket fitted any thought on this setup would be appreciated

    2. Also thought I should check the engine number, where on the engine would I find the engine number?

    Many thanks

    steve

Standard gearing is rear sprocket 48 teeth and front 14 teeth
15 would give less "acceleration" and more top speed

This is the parts schematic showing how the front sprocket is attached
Put up a photo of your bike and of your sprocket setup

The engine number is above and behind the clutch cover on the right hand side

Engine number runs along the bottom of the engine , find the bottom of the clutch cover then peek underneath

that is the wrong sprocket for your bike , this is what it should look like

That is a Honda MC22 sprocket. Get the right one with the bolt holes and the lock plate.
