    Hey team!

Not a 250 related question but seeing as though I’ve seen a few on here mention triumph Daytona’s I thought I’d ask
For a looooong time I’ve wanted a gen 1, and I managed to finally acquire one, one thing lead to another and after spending way more than I planned on parts alone (before riding the bike) and heaps of work, today was the day I finally got to ride it

I tried everything by I could to not let the inner fan boy in me change my opinion of what I was going to experience….. I’ve heard nothing but good to great things!

so fired up, whistles and crackles everythi seems wonderful as anticipation rises, throw my leg over her and first impression was whoa she sits high, higher than any other super sport I’ve owned…..:meh of I roll, brakes amazing, weightless bike feels so nimble , get used to the ergonomics, mmmmmm yes this will do nicely

    and then………

first decent bump and I nearly get pogo out of the seat! Best way to describe is it behaved like no dampening just all rear spring ??? So I went back to the shed and took a look at it! Doesn’t seem to be on to much of a dive (rake) but it’s very harsh on compression at the back, the front though seemed super firm like almost solid to me (workshop done new oil fork seals etc etc) so I’d suggest previous owner settings at this point

to me, I have zero confidence on riding this bike like none, the ass end feels so unstable (brand new tires) so can’t be that, I braked hard once and the rear felt like it wouldn’t hug or squat on the road, and on a rev matched hi rpm gear down the rear chirped and skipped for a sec ( not pushing at all)

back to the shed and sitting on the bike and rolling forward and slamming front brake to measure with zip tie how much stroke I had in the front, I discovered that I bike wouldn’t settle back to (neautral plane) after compression then rebound , is very subtlety bounces back and forth like twice almost like a boat rocking on waves? Bouncy bouncy!!

so I parked it for now, which is a shame because I’m sure these are amazing bikes, I’m so sure of it it’s just something isn’t right here but will investigate

    my thoughts

    1) blown rear shock
    2) both ends massive out of adjustment ranges
    3) front end settings set way to stiff and valving won’t allow flow??

so do I self play and see what I find , or do I take to decent suspension guru for bikes?

I wanna learn as is to why?? I’ve done racecar a for years but bike geometry is so different that I wouldn’t insult the community by saying I know what I’m doing in this regard

any advice or help greatly appreciate B6C8BC6D-903C-402F-B9C1-8B403C66D964.jpeg

There are some suspension guides in the resources section. Have a read of those and I think you will be able to get it sorted.
    Cheers

Get the owners manual and reset the suspension settings to standard as a starting point.

You can use racetechs calculator to find your needed spring rates.

Other adjustments can be done based on feel... jolts over bumps, soften the compression etc

First thing is definately set the suspension back to factory settings ... tyre pressures also

Its basically a race bike and even though first gen is pretty basic KYB suspension it needs to be setup for your weight and riding habits and by a pro
Rear shock should be serviced also and its known to be hard from the factory

The second thing u need to do is check for a recall for the charging system , especially as its a Gen 1, so it doesnt catch on fire

Have a read of my Daytona thread ...

The Dave Moss suspension videos are worth a watch also .... its an R model in this one but u get the idea

His favourite sayings are the "pogo" effect or the "second kid on the trampoline" .... exactly what u are describing :)

so below is what I found today! In the brackets ( ) is what’s deemed factory settings

the actual numbers are how many clicks the bike is at atm!

so the front is way tied down and stuff and the rear is way to bouncy

I’ve returned it to factory now and about to go for a ride

from there I’ll do sag etc and see how it goes

jump on the calculator for my weight in gear and fine tune, I’m pretty sure it will be a vast improvement

if end of the day I’m still not happy I’ll go to a suspension guru

side note I already replaced the voltage reg with a new Ducati one which was the superseded part number for the original
