    The Vins is really nice, but 170 kg is pretty low, so I suspect a little battery.

    Personally, I love my Ego. She is massive:

    Heavy due to the battery. With my style of driving, I get about 100 -120 kms before recharging.
    She is equipped with an fast charger, so on the road in about 20 mins a full battery (in Holland).

    Power is good too, 120 hp and 200 Nm, topspeed 240 km/h.

    How much of that weight would you attribute to the battery?

    Been a long time since I rode a bike of that weight, like 1988 on an '82 VF750, which was lighter - YOWSER

    The register paper says: 161 kg. So the battery = 132,5 kg.
    This is an MY2018 bike.
    The newer EGO is lighter and is having an better battery.

    I'd like to take an electric bike for a ride just to see what they're like. Unfortunately, Zero pulled out of Australia before I got the chance.

    I did a bit of reading last night after seeing Blair's post. Plenty of info about Yamaha's new generation all-in-one compact electric motors. I particularly liked the idea of a 1,900HP electric supercar (Rimac). Of all the articles I read, the following links were the most interesting.     I subscribe to that YT channel (thejuicemedia) and there's a 55min podcast that goes into more detail. As I said somewhere else on this forum, if given a choice between ICU (Internal Combustion Unit) and EV, I think EV is the lesser of the two evils. Benzene is carcinogenic to humans. I know EV manufacture and their 'recycling' isn't without negatives, but we have to take responsibility for what we leave to the following generations.

    @kiffsta A tax on EV isn't even a blip on the radar in VIC. The Polies in VIC are like a psychotic Robin Hood...steal from everybody and give it to their mates. Our 'world class' Hotel Quarantine program was/is costing over one million dollars a day! The VIC Gov just wrote off $740 million dollars in unpaid speeding fines. It can't be too long before they introduce a death tax, so they get some revenue from you on your way out. Uneffing believable...the only place in the world that has a tax on EV usage! "Melbourne...the World's most livable City!"...unless you actually live there. Sorry for ranting. This one is funny too...

    There was a rumour of a sun tax for solar panels because solar rebates were pushing everyone else's prices up. I think that idea was very quickly retracted. The biggest issue with the whole environmental debate and technology solutions is that we still want everything we have (and more), just without the costs, environmentally. The truth is that the environmental response needs to going without or sharing - in the era of FOMO, entitlement and bombardment advertising I say a thing like that. Technological solutions for us in the mess of consumption, restraint is the only way out, sorry. The longer we keep old vehicles (items in general) going, the less that has to be produced. Or hiring stuff, rather than 20 people owning boats that they use twice a year, you have one boat that those 20 people hire twice a year. I'd advocate a "new item" tax that makes new items more expensive (especially cheap imports) and makes repairs more feasible - could even use revenue to aid Australian manufacturing to be more competitive. And a tax of packaging. I see the stuff I have and the rubbish I throw away: I am unsustainable!

    As for EV, there's a few good things about them, and I'm a believer that the likes of an electric MX/race bike would be very successful. However, there are there are disadvantages, too. For cars, they needs a standardised battery that you can just pull up at a servo and swap-and-go.

    ... probably has cooling connections on it and that makes it look a bit like a Hydraulic Motor.

    I know nothing about electric motors in an EV application, but what Andy wrote made me realise these things must generate heat. How much? I don't know, but that Yamaha motor has an oil filter, which I can only assume is for a cooling system. Not 100% sure what it would be filtering out of the oil though. Maybe someone who knows can update us. Does the oil filter mean you need to do an oil and filter change every so many hours of operation?

    And, if you choose water cooling, does that mean you have to pump a radiator into your 'package'? I thought the current crop of EV vehicles didn't need a cooling system, hence why they have 'solid' fronts on the EV models. @mboddy does your EV have a cooling system? The Tesla has cooling for its PCS (Power Conversion System) and batteries, but I'm not sure how it works. I can understand a PCS generates heat as I guess it's doing the same job as a R/R.
