My first bike brought it off my dad's mate been sitting for about 5 years now it's a 250 gsx across 1995 model, put a new battery in, cleaned the carbies?(however you spell that) and it wanted to start so we sprayed some engine primer I think it is into the air intake and she started and runs, still does just doesn't start without the primer. Also after it's been started and warmed up it will start again easy. Replaced the choke springs as the choke was stuck on put in New plugs and new oil and oil filter. So anyone have any idea what's up with it?

:welcome: Carbs need a through clean to get them right. Have you checked the valve clearances?

Cleaned the carbs twice because they were not opening probably and I'll clean them again tomorrow to make sure and no I haven't checked the valve clearances how would I go about that?

How did you "clean" the carbs? If you used spray-cleaner, that doesn't do anything. Better off using pee.

    To really clean carbs

    - you need to disassemble completely to every last piece.
    - scrub hidden secret petrol circuits with brushes, poke out all holes with matching diameter copper wire
    - soak in ultrasonic cleaner for days on end in radioactive caustic solvents
    - micro-soda blast to remove scraps and dust of dried petrol plastic dislodged by previous steps
    - replace all rubber parts: O-rings, float-valves, seals (also rebuild petcock)

This is for EX250, similar process for any CV carb. Hidden circuits must be scrubbed out with brushes from beginning to end:

Extremely important to poke out all lateral bleed-holes in emulsion-tube and pilot jet. It'll push out dried-petrol plugs about size of grain of sand. No way spray-cleaners will remove them.

Recently, someone had to use drill with microscopic bit to bore through dried-petrol in some of these passages.

There's been many pro-mechanics who can rebuild engines using their teeth with hands tied behind their backs, who've had to pull carbs 4-5x to do ever deeper cleaning before bike would run right. I suggest doing full-restoration 1st time around. If it can be disassembled further or cleaned better, I recommend doing it 1st time around. Well... 3rd-time around for you.

Got it running thanks guys! Cleaned the carbs but it was the air/ fuel mix also the throttle cable came off the throttle but got it fixed now putting it back together and the thermo fans hooked up and can't for the life of me find the wires it's supposed to connect to.
