Just pulling apart a set of Mikuni BST29SS carbs and I am wondering how the floats are removed? They are held in place by a funny plastic cage that sits in the carb housing. Does the cage just pull out?

Yep, underneath the other end is the merge chamber.

That plastic cage is not safe with methanol......Somewhere in NZ if it still exists is a GSXR1100 with distorted cages.
One practise session on meth, pull the carbs to change jets - and whoops, we can't use meth in these.
Luckily a little distortion didn't hurt.

I've ordered your rebuild kit for these carbs...these leak so bad they make a Colander look water tight!

Quick question for you, @Linkin or any other expert on these carbs...

The seats are okay, but the needles are rock hard, so I want to purchase 4 x needles. The needles and seats come as a set, so any idea where I can get just the needles and for a price that I won't need to sell a kidney to buy?

Sh*t. I selected the wrong boxes. I'll blame driving all day. Thanks for checking Blair. I actually want A and B. Can you send Paypal invoice for the difference (1,365THB) please.

Yes, that's the A kit I'm after. the one with the slide housing O-rings included. I might have mucked up the price difference. I was just deducting the C kit (that I don't need) from the price of the A. I'll let you work it out. Sorry for any confusion.
