I have today learned that my 1980 Honda cb250 rsa is now road tax and MOT exempt
This will save me about £100 a year and lots of hassle
Do you Aus guys get this advantage ?

Most Australian states have an 'historic registration scheme' where there is a big reduction in rego costs after 30yrs old but they are then limited to how many times can be used per year and still need a yearly inspection from club inspector. I like your system better.

you can still be prosecuted if your bike is not to standard but for us older guys we like to tinker with the bikes as much as ride them
Is Australia going through with this electric vehicle nonsens !
I am an electrical engineer by trade and I follow how britain generates its electrical power as much as 50% is generated by imported Russian gas that is burnt to generate electricity
call that 80 % efficient transmission losses etc call that 80% efficient
putthat into a battery call that 80% efficient
By the time you do the sums its more efficient to burn the gas in your vehicle

Our Registration system is not too bad but is not a "National" system... each state has their own rules to a large extent so in some States their is only a need for an inspection when you sell a vehicle (bike in this case) and others where it is yearly but like in the UK.. those of us with many (many, many) years of experience tend to look after them better than the legal requirements.. We are about 90% (maybe more) reliant on Coal Fired Power... the rest is Wind, solar (increasing rapidly) and Hydro Electric. Surprisingly we have possibly the largest Uranium resources in the world but we will not build modern Nuclear Power plants... instead we feel better selling Uranium etc to other Countries to do what they please with it... at least the Greenie are kept quiet I suppose.

The state system are you allowed to drive state to state without checks?
I once went to Darwin Australia I think I was their for 4 days and then came back to the Uk
The thing that impressed me most was colour of the rocks etc
But the cost of living was unbelievable

We are normally... pre COVID although most state borders are now open again...
Cost of living in Darwin is high compared to other parts of Australia... mainly due to the transport cost to get goods up there.

In Queensland , we get half price registration if we remove the pillion pegs and fit a single seat cowl or shorten our seat , no pillion passengers allowed

it is a good deal if you don’t have passengers.

    1 year costs 165 pounds

£165 not cheap then ! I think we would pay with MOT and road Tax about £100
slight knock back I have to wait 5 months the bike is a 81 registered unit
Having said that I have done very little biking what with Covid 19
    So I can wait
I will go through all 6 of my bikes to see the dates etc.

Standard registration here is about 325 pounds per year , hurts when you have a few bikes.

To get this into perspective what do you pay a litre for fuel ?
And what is an average wage ?
From my 4-5 days in Australia (Darwin) the country looked to be wealthy and appeared to enjoy a very high standard of living

On average fuel is $1.50 per litre aud , so .83 pounds

according to the bureau of statistics , average wage is :

    • Full-time adult average weekly earnings increased by 4.8% to $1,713.90.

Well we pay about £1.20 per litre
Average wage would be about £500 _£600 before tax
So I think the road tax there is not so bad what we save in that we more than make up for with fuel
    very interesting
