Cb 250 97mod, the issue just started, goes to neutral when shifting from 1st to 2nd gears. Would anyone have any ideas to fix this minor problem?
Sounds like worn out gear engagement dogs. Could also be bent shift forks/rods, worn shift drum, detent/return springs. Sometimes a throttle balance can help smooth out gear shifting as well.
Also just check something simple like the splines on the output shaft , lever and fixing bolt arnt worn/loose
Hi, guy's, fixed the shifting issue. However, after taking the bike for a good ride. The clutch is slipping when it gets hot. Do you know of a good online store for parts or should I just go to Frazers here in Newcastle?
Well, that is somewhat embarrassing. After a visual inspection, where I was wearing my glasses. I located the problem, the gear selector was bent by the previous owner( must have hit something and it bent toward the engine case), I had tightened the spline thinking that it felt a little loose. In doing so I must have moved the selector further on to the splines, this caused the selector to come in contact with the engine when shifting in to first. Hence not allowing the full travel of the selector. Lesson learned, have a good look wearing glasses cause I am as blind as a bat in fading light.
I would say it would only be the plates, the issue is only noticed after a long ride. So I am thinking that the plates are getting heated and slipping.
Buy some decent springs first as your old one are sure to be weak after so many years/miles. I like to use either Barnett or EBC brands. Plenty of them on ebay.
