    Correct coil to correct plug?
Sorry I don't know if that's possible as I don't know the bike, just recall that earlier in the testing you swapped coils to trace the spark problem back to the ignition box

Please do a compression test and let us know the results.

Swapped the coils back after testing. When I got the bike the Right coil went to Left spark plug and Left coil went to the right spark plug - I assumed that was correct. I swapped them over just now to check if it'd fire up just in case someone else had put them back wrong.

Compression wasn't good. I got 6.5 for the left cylinder and 6.1 for the right (using a quality tool). With the service manual stating it should fall between 9-12, I have some issues!

It's starting to get a little beyond my skill level but I'm keen to learn! Just need some pointers on what to do next?

It all depends on your compression tester and how you have done it... Motor vehicle compression testers generally have a long hose with the schrader valve at the gauge and to be honest.. you wont get a reliable result in term of pressure from one of those. You also need to ensure the throttle and any slides are wide open during each test (always test with all plugs out) and then check each one with a little squirt of oil into the bore.
The best ones for bikes are the short ones where you need to hold the rubber tip onto the spark plug hole.. mostly this becomes a 2 person job then.
Alternatively... get yourself a leak down tester... it gives you a far better indication of what is going on and where.. ie Rings, valves etc.

That was my thought - if the slides weren't propped open the reading will be low

Righto, I'll give it another go making sure I take on board them points above. I may not have fully opened the throttle. I Will post results later this week.

I have burned an igniter just on one side. It kept igniting on one side but the other was gone. Replacing the igniter fixed it.

Thanks mate. I replaced the whole of ignition system as it seemed cheaper to do so with reliable parts.

I'm going to do a leak down test as there is a compression issue. I just haven't had the time to do it yet but got the tester and will be taking the engine over to a friend with a compresser, and superior knowledge to me, to help with that.

I've stripped the bike down as it all needs cleaning up anyway but reluctant to do anything else until I get the engine up and a running. I suspect my issue is with the valves so will be one of the first things I check.

Have attached picture of bike before it was stripped down.
