Hi all I currently ride a harley and a triumph daytona but recently brought a 1989 zxr250 as a first bike for my daughters 18th its a bit of a project to work on together to teach her mechanics and get her on the road found this site and hope you all can help us with any info along the way to getting it restored , the bike had been sitting around for some time before we brought it fitted a new battery cleaned out the fuel system and got it running blew lots of smoke as expected for a while but but then cleared completely and ran crisp and well .Unfortunately I work away and left it sit for a few weeks and when we tried to start it again it totally refused seems it now is way down on compression on 2 cylinders possibly had a bit of rust in the bores and now has stuck piston rings thanks to said rust now being in between the rings either way it looks like we will be pulling the engine down so can anyone tell us the best place to find the parts we need for a rebuild
When sourcing parts the main models here are the A and C .... there are subtle differences and most sellers just list as a ZXR250 or when grey imported to Oz , a ZX2R https://www.motorcyclespareswarehouse.com.au/search?page=1&q=zxr250 Heres a list of online sources for bike parts https://www.2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/online-sites-for-parts-and-accessories.3736/ Biggest challenge on the old inline 4s is the carbys https://litetek.co/Carb_Kit_Kawasaki_ZXR250.html https://www.2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/how-to-clean-your-carbies-on-a-kawasaki-zxr250c.653/ Is it still turning over or has it died totally?
Thank you for the list of sellers . The bike still turns over fine good spark getting fuel carbies where a bit messy inside but not extreme will be re building them now I have some links to parts . just need to sort the compression issue 1&2 under 30 psi 3&4 around 90 psi which wasnt the case before the first time we had it running hence the feeling its stuck rings after it cooled down from the first run . Im going to put a mixture of ATF and acetone 50/50 , a brew I mix at work for freeing up things other products wont move, down the bores and see if it frees them up if not will start pulling it down
Threebond Super Engine conditioner will clean any old oil and carbon buildup off the ring's, piston's and combustion chamber's
