Well I finally got around to ordering a carb rebuild kit for my 82 gsx250.
So I fully stripped the carbs and put them in my ultrasonics cleaner, once clean and I drained the tank i found 2 of these very small ball bearings in the bottom, now I've looked up parts lists online but can find where they come from but I'm stumped, anyone know?

Maybe those ball bearings don't belong in the carbs at all. Put the carbs back together and run the bike. If it's all good than you will have an answer to your question. I've never heard of ball bearings being used in carbs. Maybe to block off an orifice etc.

That's what I was referring to as an orifice being blocked off. They're normally done during manufacture, so if they've fallen out, then your carbs might not work properly.

Yeah cheers I'll have a look at the carb housing tomorrow but I'm pretty sure all the little orifices are blocked with brass parts. Maybe they are from the petcock like sharky said.

Hey, I think that little fella might be from the choke mechanism. Check the choke guide rod to see if there is a slight grove running along the rod, at the knob side. If there is, then that ball is the locating jobby that would allow the choke to stay on after releasing the knob.

Do you have a wee spring? There should be one that sits in the carb. body recess, inside the guide tunnel, under the ball.

Hope your knob works as intended after you’ve finished ;)

That'd be it. There should be an access hole [on the front side of the carb.] into choke guide tunnel, that allows the spring and ball to be positioned in a recess. Just need to press the spring back into its recess, drop the ball directly through the access hole onto the spring and depress them the as you insert the choke guide bar.
