After using my good old Methylene Chloride paint stripper yesterday to remove the "Textured" pain I had applied to the fork lowers I cleaned them down several times with thinners and a scourer then etch primed them and laid on a couple of coats of dupli-color high heat Ceramic Engine paint in Aluminium... I wanted the same colour I will do the engine in which is why I used that one.. it comes out a bit dull so they will get some clear in a few days. I then laid out the new (old) fork tubes I bought from Wolfie a long time ago.. these were off a Zeal and it looks like there are a number of differences in the pics below... The metering rod is different in the way it mounts into the fork lower and the bottom nylon bearing would be different as well (I dont have the Zeal one). The springs are slightly different in that the Zeal has probably 3 more tight wound coils and is a touch longer... the metering rod spring is considerable longer on the Zeal but the spacer is shorter. They are both 38mm and the tubes themselves themselves are the same length.. I should probably measure inside to see that they will accept the FZR internals.. I will do that later today...I might end up having to find 2 more fork tubes if they are different inside.. part numbers are different as are the seals.... hmmm Zeal parts are on the left
So.. on further investigation I cant use the Zeal fork tubes with the 3LN internals and I am not sure if I could even use them with the 3LN lowers... it depends on the bottom locating bush dimensions. Rather than buying 2 of the bushes and finding out none of it works I am better of looking for FZR 3LN fork tubes.. Anyone want to buy a set of Zeal fork tubes, spring, spacer and metering rod??? Cheap at $60 the pair Anyone have some 3LN fork tubes in good condition? lol I also tried out my kArcher wet Sandblaster today... OMG what a mess it makes...lol maybe my kArcher isnt powerful enough but it was very time consuming to take paint off and it really didnt do anything on the surface rust that was there. I gave up after about 10kg of sand...lol I will drop it into the Sandblaster when I get a chance and have him blast it... I learned long ago that doing some things myself can save money but are really much better being done by the Pro's.
@Andych Maybe the longer Zeal springs with the longer spacer would stiffen up the marshmellow FZR front end Good condition FZR tubes would be as readily available as a set of fully working carbs The ones I just did had a little bit of pitting but it smoothed off rubbing down with WD40 and alfoil Im not at home ATM and Im not sure but theres maybe a set of tubes in my spares dept If u dont want to use the Zeal springs I might try them in the Flyer
Depends on how much you want to spend? https://www.ebay.com/itm/FORK-PIPE-...991-38MM-Front-fork-inner-tubes-/263218170484
ZXR seat needs new foam and recovering... thinking of getting a custom one done by MJM in Goulburn. Picked up a riders seat off buyee for a song - $2.34 plus freight. Have to find a few more cheap bits to stuff into one box. Anyone needing ZXR bits PM me and I'll see what's available on buyee
Haha.. yes, they are only $219.90 plus 11.05 on eBay from them.. I could easily go to Wattle Grove to pick them up but they dont offer local pickup. They are a bit cheaper then ones that @Murdo linked before
Its a bit far to send a bike frame...and I am not sure if it gets rid of rust pitting.. at least the rust part of it anyway but I am considering the engine cases, clutch and stator cover. I need to talk to the guy in Sydney that does it.. I might get him to one item for me just to see how it comes up from him... I have seen @kiffsta 's pics so I know what it needs to look like. It all comes down to freight there and back... if I was in Qld everything would be aqua-blasted
@Andych , did you have the sand hose for your Karcher just stuck into the bag of sand ? I made up a gravity fed feed for mine, work's pretty good
