Well, I got my big boy license, I sold my old "Frankenbike", and I got my big boy bike. But for some reason I miss these old ZXR's. Maybe it was the 20,000rpm, maybe it was because of the charm, who knows. So I decided to bite the bullet and get another ZXR250, sight unseen and with some problems but only 13,400ks and with rego. I got this... **** that's ******: Radiator is cracked (I haven't found it, previous owner told me this.) - FIX'D Overflow bottle is cracked (Haven't found the leak, or even the overflow bottle.) - SORTA FIX'D Rear tyre has a hole in the side wall. - FIX'D Both front fork seals are leaking. - FIX'D It has a Tyga kit. Front brake lever is snapped. - FIX'D Water pump is leaking both coolant and oil. suspect mechanical seal is blown. - FIX'D Sump has a stripped sump plug.- FIX'D Stuff that I plan to do: Remove the Tyga kit and replace it with OEM fairings + OEM lights + OEM Fuel tank cap. (Anyone want to swap?) Shorty levers Paint the whole thing Delft blue. Ninja 300 COP conversion All new brake pads. Hopefully, I'll be able to get this bike to a rideable state by next weekend. As with my last ZXR, after only owning it for an hour, I broke 3 things, and got cut open twice, but as stuff progresses I'll keep you all posted.
So I want to get the OEM fairings back on my bike, but as it turns out the Tyga kit swaps a lot more than the fairings and a few mounting points. I'm basically going to have to strip the bike down to its most basic components and get a new subframe.
With the Tyga kit you will have a modified rear subframe and no expansion tank. Also you need to find original lights front and back. And front fairing bracket/clock mount. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
I can't swap any bits, but I'd be keen on the Tiga kit. I'm guessing the original bike is a ZXR250C? PM me if you want to sell the kit.
While I am willing to sell the kit, I'd prefer a swap because I can't ride her totally naked. Got my water pump seal kit, installed it and it seems to be holding both water/oil. Haven't been able to test it because the sump plug is still stripped, so I can't test the oil or take the bike for a quick hot-lap around the block.
it's the sump itself thats stripped, I'd have to re-tap it and then go the next size up. It's really a toss up between a new sump (I have a friend who just picked up a ZXR and a spare motor) or re-tap and get an oversized plug.
A lot of the oversize sump plug's now have a self tapping thread and cost around $10 I've made my own before to fix a 10mm thread, by tapering and slotting the end of a 7/16 unf seat belt bolt and using that as the tap and sump bolt @risky Is that $20 for someone to drill, tap and fit a Helicoil for you ? the last Helicoil kit i bought cost $40 for a 6mm kit
had a helicoil put in friends bike for a 20$ note.if the part is off and clean it only takes 5 minutes.
Wade, I feel the same as you, do not think I will get rid of the bike. Swapping the kit will require someone to remove the same bits.. some love the modern bike look, some love the old. Old bike lover here. Heilicoil, and run the same bolt or go one up if it is totally mangled. Know any mechanics? Borrowed a kit off them and did it myself on another vehicle, $10-15 can’t remember.
I saw your photos and thought it was fairly pretty looking bike. I have a C model, but I live in central Queensland. I am going to the Gold Coast Tuesday if that is of any help? I won't have time to stay for the swap, but seeing as my bike is just sitting and waiting for a budget, I could leave it with you. Unless you want to swap bikes?
I had it running, but it might need some tuning/further carbies cleaned or seal kit. It has leaking fork seals, needs a front tyre, battery and the fuel tap leaks. From memory, that's where it is at. Probably the most concerning part is the 70,000 km on the clock. Oh, and the peg mounts have been cut off the rearsets.
Haven't been on lately. but here's an update. Fork seals got done and I cut down the exhaust, and most things have been fixed up... But the carbs appear to have a problem. The bike Won't rev past about 16,000RPM, it's like it hits the limiter. This problem has been around since I got the bike, and was just as bad since I cut down the exhaust. I just checked the carbs and they appear to have been rebuilt with brand new jets (122 outside, 125 inside) and the float heights look good. The idle jets are good, and I have no problems with the bike starting hot or cold. This is doing my head in.
