Anybody got suggestions of a good place to get tyres around the Mid/North Coast area. I am looking for tyres for my 1981 CB250 RS. I don't mind taking off the wheels and travelling if the place suggested has a good range. Thanks.
The two places I know in Coffs are Coffs City Moto (Yamaha/Kawasaki/Suzuki) and North Coast V Twins (Harley/Ducati)
Got hubby's Vulcan at Coffs City Moto. They also serviced the Vulcan and my Honda CB125E. We had a LOT of dramas with them, but were assured by Anthony, the owner, that the team members responsible for the issues were gone. To be fair, the services were excellent. Top notch. Prices - totally and completely insane. And they absolutely will not go below RRP. Could have gotten my exact Shoei for $100 less, delivered from MCA in Sydney, but got it there because it was convenient. Regrets, I have them. So only go there if you have money to burn. Also, enter the Honda dealer next door to Coffs City Moto at your own risk. No customer service and terrible range, from my experience. I'd suggest doing a LOT of research online and then buying your tyres online, taking the wheels off your bike yourself and driving the wheels to someone who can put a tyre on a rim. Don't even tell them it's for a bike. I'm pretty sure that's secret code for 'charge double'. I did the first bit regarding research (twice) with mixed results. First time I knew what I wanted when the shop had no idea (CB125E - popular learner bike with surprisingly VERY unpopular tyre sizes - loved Bikelette, but she was hard work mechanically). Got talked into something I hadn't researched and didn't want which I accepted...then died over the price. Good tyres, insane pricing...service costs on top at Coffs City Moto didn't help. Second time, (Mia) did a lot of research online, insisted on the tyres I wanted. My problem is I took the bike to a local shop and got the tyres installed, without taking them off the bike myself, at an inflated price with a suggestion that the old tyres were actually 27 years old (6 years older than the bike and 8 years older than the actual age of the tyres - LOL - I know how to read a tyre, in spite of my gender, thanks), hence the bike had a lot of other issues (she does and I knew it...not the point though) and they could totally sort out all the other issues for me. LOL. No. Veryyyyyyy much regret supporting two local business and wish I'd just taken the mostly online route both times - rural bike shops have not given me a good impression so far. Moral of the story: Learn as much as you can and do everything yourself.
These guy's are pretty good on tyre price's, i was quoted $40 more than the inc postage price off ebay to just buy the same tyre in SA without fitting it. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PIRELLI-...hash=item2365945889:m:mowJ1Ttk4m_j1whav4PbThg
Thanks Mymia for taking the time to put all that down. There is a lot of things I am finding out about being in a regional area regarding availability, and the fact that some people just don't want to help you. I have been away from riding motorcycles for a while and the service landscape seems to have changed, shall we say! But I'm a glass half full type of bloke so I'll just get on with it. I've been thinking about combining a trip to Sydney with picking up some parts, tyres, and a new helmet especially with the range available. Thanks again.
Just a side note on trip to the city. I recently went to Motorcycle Accessories Supermarket in Campbelltown (www.mcas.com.au) and it was about the size of a small Bunnings. They must have had 200+ helmets on display, and even though I was with a mate looking to buy a helmet I still bought a new leather jacket for 1/2 what I was looking at at home. They also had good range of tyres too.
@Bob Sykes ... heres a few online places that may help in researching and pricing things before purchase https://www.2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/online-sites-for-parts-and-accessories.3736/
For my CB250 I only had the option of these street demon tyres, I rang around they all cost about the same but the labour varied a little. You might find it's all much of a muchness depending on your sizing. The CB seemed to have a weird size... not sure if yours would be the same. GL.
There is 18 x 1.25 stamped on the rim. The recommended tyre size is on a footrest bracket decal, I think is says "3.00 front, 4.10 rear" . Making the choice is a few weeks away at least, so I'll look further.
Yep, I went to the one in the city. They were super helpful, but I wasn't quite ready to buy yet. Really regret not giving them my money. I'll know better next time!
This ebay seller has the rear tyre listed as 3.5x18 for the CB250RS?, $134 inc delivery http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1982-For...360119?hash=item2ee56902f7:g:K48AAOSwu4BV4rgr They have the matching front as well, $103.40 inc delivery http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1982-For...360334?hash=item2ee56903ce:g:-SUAAOSwHmhV8w3g
I haven't seen any list of specifications that have 3.50x18 for the rear tyre. All I have ever seen is 4.10x18.
Just a quick note to all forum members living around Coffs harbour region and seeking a good mechanic....no an excellent mechanic, then give my friend Jason Mitchell at Redline Motorcycles a call on 049999246. Jason used to be my mechanic here on the sunshine coast in Qld for many years. His workshop is based at Woolgoolga, tell him Phil from Twin Waters sent you. He was always able to get me great deals on tires when he was based up here Hope this helps and feel certain you won't be disappointed.
I just looked at the Honda CB250RS Service manual in the resource's area Front tyre 3.00S18-4PR, Rear tyre 4.00S18-4PR There's a few 4.00 x 18's available https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?...l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.TRS0&_nkw=4.00+18+&_sacat=0
