Dear All, Been a while since I put a message/question onto the Forum. I have a really nice SRX250, which has an aftermarket exhaust. It does not use the "sliencer" box unedr the engine, rather it has a 2into1 echaust from the cylinder heads to under the gearbox/frame, then there is a muffler - all this produces a lovely exhaust not ( which even my wife admires!!!). So where does one look for such an exhaust for my next SRX250? Cheers, Arthur, Victoria, Australia
I think you will find it has been custom made. I have seen a few Custom exhausts on SRX250 race bikes in Japan but no aftermarket items.
There's one on ebay, look's like it could be a modified standard system ? It's bit dear though and has no db killer in it either https://www.ebay.co.uk/c/13008184414 It might have had the silencer removed and had a new main pipe made up and welded in
That pretty much looks like the SRX250 3WP muffler and yep.. it could well have been modified to remove the big silencer underneath removed. I will be attempting to make up my own SS headers etc once I have the head etc back and the engine all together. that way I can cut and shut and tack it all in place on the bike. Should end up considerably cheaper than that one from the US of A
That looks custom. I had one made that looked like that, but it was just a bastardised normal system with the rusty collector removed.
Very clean and well looked after bike you have there... the exhaust has been done nicely too. Added bonus that you have the Optional Oil Cooler. They are highly sought after and rare as Rocking Horse Manure.
Totally agree with the comment's above. Wow , that's one super nice SRX. I bet it sound's good too with no collector box under the engine. Even have Metzeler tyres fitted , i wasn't aware that they where available to suit , i should look into that. As Andych has commented on , those oil cooler's are rare as , iv'e got one in the part's box , just have to get the radiator fin's cleaned up if all possible.
@Arthur Freeman , how are you going with the tuning of your SRX250 ? I saw you posted a couple of comment's in your showcase area It sound's like your bike may be running rich in the top end I had similar problem's with my XT250 4V, (same engine as the SRX250) I found that i needed a leaner main jet, bought 1 size smaller than standard and fitted that. It cured the bike from cutting out at high speed when it was at normal operation temp's And there's no need to play around with the jetting on the vacuum side of the carby either I run all my engine's on 98 too, and each has been tuned to suit
I agree with @my67xr A common mistake most people make with aftermarket exhausts is that they feel the need to jet them up... reality is they need to jet down as the engine is able to breath better it pulls through more air which in turn pulls through more fuel but the engine cant handle the extra fuel unless you start altering ignition curve, heads etc.. not easy to do on the SRX... and of little to no benefit really. One size down should probably sort it out...
Yes... it was a Dealer fit accessory and is now highly sought after.. they sometimes come up for sale in Japan on Yahoo auctions but they are usually quite expensive and mostly the cooler isnt in the best condition. There is a complete bike for sale in Sydney right now with one on it as well... https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/rozelle/motorcycles/yamaha-srx-250-project-retro/1234757869
I'm aware that this is a super old post ( 2019 ) , but , wonder where Arthur has gone to. Would have been interesting if he solved the running issue in the end.
