Interested to know what jackets people are sporting? Leather, textile? styles? preferences? We wear them everyday. Any reports of people who have given them the ultimate test? I'm keen to hear how they performed (or didn't)
I'm an old school rider , so have always used a leather jacket and leather pants for way over thirty odd years. My last leather jacket was purchased back in 1984 when i bought a new Honda 750 FE and have just recently replaced it with another leather jacket. Had a really good run out of my old jacket , but i do look after my gear. Have heard the textile jackets are pretty good , but have no experience with them at all.For me , i'll just keep my leather gear.
Textile are definately better in summer. I have an old Dririder jacket with removable liner, Dririder Pirelli textile w/removable liner, a Spidi RS textile jacket with removable liner and armour (main zipper is starting to go), and a VCan Sports Dead Dog Racing textile jacket. Plus i have a Walon Milller leather jacket. They've each got their own advantages I haven't had the bad luck on trying any out though, but if i ever do i hope it's in the one with armour, touch wood
I use an Aldi leather jacket on cold winter days , everything else is my trusty dri rider textile jacket , I keep the liner in my bikes boot in case it rains
In summer I wear a dri rider textile vented jacket with the armour and zip in liner when needed, but the rest of the time I prefer my 1976 bought Bellstaff waxed cottons which are 100% water and wind proof (unlike the 'dri' rider).
Have an Alpinestars RC-1 jacket that I picked up for a very good price ($1000 jacket new, I paid $150) and it was in perfect nick. I use that for serious riding or all the time in the colder weather. My daily jacket is a DriRider Air Ride 2 textile... first jacket I ever bought. It's survived about 3 offs and is still in good condition, except for one of the zippers which came off when I was doing it up once, got it back on but not in the correct spot.
catalyst on the abc showed a intresting lab test on both abbration limits on varies jacket / pants materals and also body heat (temps ) a while back (couple of yrs).. not sure how to bring it up but its on utube as catalyst something or other.. was a surp p rise my normal jacket away from any armor fared worse than deniem.. worth going looking for and posting here.. wasn't to hart to find again when I looked last yr
Catalyst story here: http://www.abc.net.au/catalyst/stories/4433001.htm I have a Dri Rider textile jacket with removable water proof liner. I've had two RJays textile jackets before and will never buy RJays again. Zips went on both just outside the warranty period, I do miss having a thermal insert as well as a waterproof insert though. Edit, also had a denim 'draggin jeans' jacket for a while. Was good for hot and cold weather, sucks in the rain. Also looks a bit 80s.
I had a textile jacket, but then I found this River Road Cruiser jacket on sale for $100. It's my goto jacket now, I wear it everywhere. It has a deep pocket I can put my phone in, a pocket for my mp3 player and lots of other storage. It has 6 vent zips and a zip on the cuffs to tighten things up or to allow air flow. It's got a heavy velcro cinch at the waist so I can customise the fit. It's also got a removable liner, which is handy.
Traditional styled leather armoured jacket by 4SR in the better weather, tourmaster 3 in 1 textile armoured jacket for the usual Irish weather of showers and an old padded Drizabone jacket for a change. The Tourmaster 3 in 1 is well recommended
