Round 2 with this bike. I didn't ride it for a week, went to jump on it to take it for a run to Tamworth last weekend, and it wouldn't start. Same as before, turns but no fire. And the neurtal switch has decided not to turn on, undid the wiring to it. Now the light wont light up again. And the bike won't run again. This is insane
I would think the switch has to be connected or bypassed correctly Have u tried starting with the clutch in?
I reconnected the switch and got the light on, tried to start the bike, turned but no fire. I know the bike is in neutral cause i can move it around Repeated the process but this time no neutral light. I am starting to think i should sell this bike as i am over fixing it just because i let it sit for a week
Hi Sandra, I have a 1990 ZZR250 I ride daily. The choke won't stay on but apart from that I've never had any trouble with it. Re the not starting - you might have a faulty side-stand safety switch or neutral switch if your neutral light isn't coming on. Have you tried holding the clutch in while starting?
It turned out to be a damaged neutral switch wire. No that is sorted the bike stars 1st time everytime. And runs well. I am taking it down to the city this weekend, a long run will do it some good i think
They are a great little bike. This one is the second one i have owned, the first one was a black with silver decals '97 model and now the '01 model that is champagne and white with silver/black decals.
Here i go again, round 3. Left sitting under the carport for 2 weeks while i was away, went to take it out and it wont start again. I will have spend the rest of today to get it going again, as i want to take it up north tomorrow. Maybe i should consider parting with this bike and get something that i dont have to work on all the time.
Hmmm, what happens when you try to start it? Nothing? Sluggish to turn over/faint lights? Turns over but won't fire? Something else?
Hmmm sounds like lack of spark might be an issue. If it's not the battery, it could be fouled plugs, flooding, damaged/disconnected high tension (spark plug) leads, or ignition coils.
The plugs are new and were put in yesterday. Am over this bike, when it goes its a great little bike, but when it plays up its a real pain
I have to hold the choke on mine for a few seconds when starting it cold as it returns to the off position if I don't. Have the carbs been cleaned and reassembled? Could be worth doing if you haven't.
Yes the carbs were cleaned last time we had the bike in pieces. Put in new fuel filter and hose and it still wont run. Too much money spent on fixing this one and not enough enjoyment. I have decided to sell it Thanks for all the advice, it is appreciated
Some bikes are just too much trouble. Sell it and get something you will enjoy without have to spend all day working on it.
Thats for sure, But i would be luck to get enough money to get another bike. I dont how how much to put on it
Look at what others are asking for the same model on ebay, gumtree, etc and price yours around the same. Drop it a couple of hundred $$$ if you want a quick sale.
