Has anyone built a DIY carb sync tool? Did you find that it worked well and what fluid did you put in it?
Ha ha, I remember doing that. Had bought a new XS750 Yamaha and at the 10,000Km service decided to check the carb balance. Could not afford to take to shop so made my own with three 5 me lengths of 6mm plastic hose. I connected them to the fittings on the intakes, ran them up over the roof beam and down into a bucket of water with some food colouring in it, thinking that it would not draw the water that high with the engine vacuum. Started the engine and to my delight the water levels rose about eye height. I adjusted the carb that was showing a lower water level than the rest and it sounded to be running sweet with all levels the same. Thought that I was pretty clever so gave engine a big rev to make sure and on closing the throttles the vacuum sucked the water up over the beam and straight into the engine, stopping it dead. Had to take the plugs out and spin it on the started to clear all the water. Next time I remembered not to rev it.
