    G'day all,
New member here,I've just purchased a 1964 Yamaha YDS3 Catalina,my first Japanese road bike after 55 years as a keen Motorcyclist.
The bike is pretty original and complete and I'm really looking forward to its restoration.
It arrives next week and it'll be great to see it in the flesh.
Best wishes to you all ... Charlie.

I was just on the phone to my father , he recently sold a YDS3. He said he has plenty of parts for that model if you find you require anything give me a bell. 0423326890
He is in NZ but can post easily enough.

That looks to be a good start. Here is my resto of a 1967 YDS-5 that I did back a few years. Interested to know what makes it a 'Catalina' different from an ordinary YDS-3.

I found a lot of NOS in USA but the tank badges were the most hard to get and expensive part of the build. Finally got some from http://www.badgereplicas.com.au and although not cheap were very good copies of originals. Good luck with your resto and keep us posted with some pics.

    Cheers Murdo,thanks,
I just spoke the courier and the bike will be here tomorrow ,you beauty.
As the bike has been sitting for over 20 years,do you think that the crankcase seals will have hardened and need replacing.
I see that you did yours and had to split the cases .Was there much drama in doing this ? A fairly straight forward job ?.I've done this with British bikes but not a Japanese 250 2 stroke.

I'm not sure about the 'Catalina' tag, that's just what was in the advertisement for the bike .

Giday Charlie , unfortunately dad has not got a throttle assembly for your model. He makes his own speedo cables and has not got ay outers for the bike either.
Just let me know if you need anything else when you get into the resto.
He gets a fair bit of stuff off Ebay USA.
    Good luck with the bike!

The crank seals are not difficult to do, just the centre 'wedge' piece is a bit fiddly with the new rubber seal. Plenty of grease helps.

Thanks Tony, much appreciated..I've had a quick look and i'm sure there'll be other bits missing, but this is what I can see at the moment.
I need ..Left hand riders foot peg, left hand cylinder rubber boot (between air-box and carb),taillight lens, headlight glass, front brake lever and tank badges..
All the best to you and your Dad..
