Help What's a good torque wrench to start with?

I'm mostly worried about the forks. There's a range of 18 - 62Nm on the stuff there. So I found the Topeak D Torque Wrench DX, which looks perfect (4-80Nm range). My bank account, however, is already crying.

What torque wrenches do you all use or recommend? Any help appreciated.

 

I use one like this. They basically sell them for free and these don't need calibrating neither. I will buy a proper one in the future though.

 

I've got both the big Warren and Brown one with the 3/4" drive and the kincrome one from Bunnings

The bunnings one will be a lot kinder to your wallet and is perfectly suitable - the ratchet is also useful for hard to reach spots with less turning space - if you get this one remember to loosen the spring tension before putting it back into the tool box - it's in the manula

 

Agree with GI. The only brand i'll ever buy is the Warren and Brown products. Purchased a cheap torque spanner , cant remember the brand and it was so far out of calibration it wasn't funny ,no wonder i kept on blowing head gaskets in my old car. The tool was quickly filed under R for rubbish.

 

warren and brown and your grandkids will thank you when they are 90.

Half the price of what was in bunnings and having a close look I reckon it's essentially the same thing.

 

Warren & Brown 321500. 3/8" drive and does 5-140nm or something like that. Mine cost about $250 but if you look after it, you'll never need another.

 

Seems like Warren & Brown is the consensus.

You may be able to find an unsold straggler in one of their stores in the reduced price displays

 

have not seen them for a while but will look for you when next in inner newcastle. saw some once down to 20 bucks. not a perfect wrench but suitable for occasional jobs but warren and brown the rolls royce of tension wrenches.might even pick one up in a 2nd hand store.
